MN: Daniel Maldini not part of Fonseca’s plans and one step away from permanent exit

By Oliver Fisher -

Daniel Maldini’s time at AC Milan might just be coming to an end as the club are negotiating a permanent sale, according to a report.

According to the latest from MilanNews, Maldini Jr. is not part of the plans of the new Milan under Paulo Fonseca , which is why the management have immediately moved to find him accommodation together with his agent.

Over the past few weeks there has been talk about Roma and potential interest on their part in bringing the playmaker to the capital, but it is Monza that have made the most concrete moves and are now looking to tie up the operation.

Negotiations between Milan and the Brianzini for the return of Maldini are proceeding quickly. Unlike six months ago, however, this time the Italian will move to Monza on a permanent basis, with the two clubs reportedly working on this formula.

At the moment the crux of the matter mainly concerns the percentage of the future resale in favour of Milan, an aspect that could however be resolved soon and would free the 23-year-old to travel the short hop to Monza for a medical.

The Diavolo want to protect themselves with a resale clause in the event that he explodes with Empoli, having scored four goals in the second half of last season.

      1. Define ‘good enough’ in the context of one of the top, what, 10 youth products of his generation in Italy’?

How many people his age have played for (not any youth team) Milan’s youth team, broken into the first team, and had a reasonable loan spell at a Serie A club?

But what we’re going to sign multiple players from mid-table clubs in France who are somehow better because….we paid money for them and if you pay money something it has to be ‘better’.

I look forward to signing another 10 players in his position in the next 5 years as we look for someone ‘good enough’.

  1. of course, there is some sentiment attached, but we had too much patience with certain players and those ones are not half as talented as he is. time will tell. he should go where he can develop in peace. As it stands his fathers name is a disadvantage in the present environment.

  2. better skill than Chuck, still young, can play many positions & good in dead ball, unfortunately just because his name sake,
if they are so good why they don’t sell Origi, Toure & other loanee flop 1st before him

    1. Really dude? You just hate the management for whatever they doing right? In order to SOLD a player they need a club to buy right?

And if this dude really that good like you said no way Monza will pass the option to buy him for ONLY 5M right? LOL

    2. Better skill than Chuck?
Daniel will be 23 when the season starts.
So far in his serie A career he has played:
      20/21 25 minutes
      21/22 144 minutes
      22/23 620 minutes
      23/24 588 minutes.
That’s total of 1377 minutes of professional football at age 23 across 4 teams, Milan, Spezia, Empoli, Monza. He couldn’t eveb get playing time on relegation squads but supposedly he is better than Chuck.
Was he a top talent coming up thru the youth teams?
If he was he would have been called up for the Italy youth teams.
Daniel has been called up for Italy youth teams only 7(seven) times.
      In comparison:
Calabria 43 games for Italy youth teams
      Pobega 8 games for youth
      Cutrone: 83 games for youth
      Nasti 13 games for youth
Paloschi 50 games for youth teams
      Darmian 32 youth
      Cristante 30 youth games
      Locatelli 71 games for youth
      Bellanova 88 games for youth
Colombo, same generation, 47 games for youth teams.
I can go on and on to show that if Daniel had a different last name no one will be talking about him now because neither he is a good player today, nor he was a top talent coming up. Milan has produced much better talents than him.
He is the football version of Bronny James. Nepotism is the only reason why he is talked about or given opportunities.
His name sake is actually the sole reason why you know him, it sure isn’t for his talent or skill

      1. There’s no hiding the fact that he hasn’t played nearly enough minutes at his age. But if you’ve watched him play this season, i think it’s fairly clear to say he is talented. Look at the goal vs cagliari, no player in milan’s squad is scoring that one. That said, i would still loan him out but with a rebuy option, just like we did with empoli.

      2. Well given very few players who are loaned actually get a lot of minutes at their new clubs…

        Loans rarely work out.

The only players who have actually broken into the Milan first team never went on loan including probably the least impressive – Calabria.

Calabria owes his Milan career to an accident – it just so happens everyone we signed to push him out got injured!

Maldini is in a position where there is constantly fiddling. How many wingers have we signed in the past 10 years? Over 20? 3 last summer!

Players are sent on loan as an afterthought after the club has had a flutter at the casino, and are stuck with too many chips.

So they back some other punters who aren’t really interested in gambling with someone else’s money. Therefore they use the players sparingly without any real interest in their long term development.

Add in the general disdain for youth across Serie A and you get the national team being comprehensively beaten by Switzerland.

        1. Pobega at Torino on loan played 2238 minutes,
At Spezia the previous year he played 1239 minutes.
Colombo 1366 minutes for Monza on loan this season.
At Lecce tge previous season he played 1570 minutes.
The Milan Primavera players might not he good enough to play for Milan but they are good enough to play for low level clubs. Daniel isn’t good enough to play even for the lower level clubs based on minutes given to him.
Between Spezia, Empoli and Monza in 2 years Daniel played a total of 1200 minutes.
Colombo BTW is younger than him but gets more playing time because he is a better player.
Daniel without his last name is in serie B

          1. You stats are meaningless because the whole thing is meaningless.

Stop acting like people are approaching the transfer market or player development in any kind of serious way.

It’s a world of wheelers and dealers and middle men and offshore bank accounts.

I don’t care about his last name. Every youth player who fails (as in 99.99% of them) is an indictment on the system.

PS Pobega and Colombo and everyone else is gone or going too.

          1. I’m pretty consistent in criticising the system not names.

Names come and go. Especially today. It’s almost pointless supporting any team because the players keep changing. Clubs are now just empty brands with little to no connection with their cities, their players or their fans.

Why don’t they just rename all of the clubs?

            The Red Devils.

Anyway given Italy’s Euro performance maybe someone needs to think about why 99.99% of the best players in their aged groups fail to successfully move into senior sides.

Let’s hope the answer is more complicated than ‘they’re just not good enough”.

  3. I really didn’t like the way this owner disrespected one of our legends, and without grounds nonetheless. However, young maldini is plain old not good enough… not fast enough, not hungry enough etc. At 23 he should show some spark at least. Yes he scored a goal or two while on loan, but that not enough. Wish there was another great maldini in our squad but this one isn’t.
