MN: Donnarumma said goodbye to Milan team-mates after Atalanta win – the background

By Oliver Fisher -

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma decided to say goodbye to his AC Milan team-mates after Sunday’s win over Atalanta, according to a report.

MilanNews writes how after the 2-0 victory in Bergamo which secured Milan’s return to the Champions League after a seven-year absence, Donnarumma had already bid farewell to his companions, confessing that he will not renew his contract with the Rossoneri.

The management made another attempt to convince him to stay on Monday but without success, and thus the decision was made to close the deal for Lille’s Mike Maignan without waiting any further. The Frenchman had already been secured for weeks via a verbal agreement, but for Gigio the prospect of Champions League football does not appear to be enough so he will leave after nine years.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Maignan’s medical is now done and he will sign a five-year contract worth €2.8m net per season with Milan.

  1. When someone walks out of your life, let them.
There’s no use in wasting time on people that leave you.
What you make of yourself and your future are no longer tied to them.
Yeah, you may miss them. But remember, you weren’t rhe first one who gave up.

  2. Thankfully they did not give in to ridiculous demands. Donnarumma is not a Milan fan, you can’t refuse the highest salary at the club and pass the opportunity to play in the CL with (allegedly) your favourite club. Milan will never try to get him back and I hope Romagnoli also leaves as Raiola asks for his salary to go way too high for how he played.
