MN: Eight players absent for Milan-Verona as Pioli deals with unprecedented injury crisis

By Nikita Fesyukov -

AC Milan will face Verona tonight in the eighth round of Serie A and the team will be looking to build on a positive moment from before the international break.

The Rossoneri currently sit in second place of the Serie A table, only behind Napoli who have so far won all their matches. And Stefano Pioli’s men are widely expected to continue their fine run tonight at the San Siro.

However, as noted by Milannews.it, coach Pioli will have to deal with a handful of absences for the match, with eight players missing in the list of called-up players.

These absences include the two goalkeepers Mike Maignan and Alessandro Plizzari, who are both out long-term after undergoing surgery. Antonio Mirante, in the meantime, still needs some time to get back into shape.

Theo Hernandez and Brahim Diaz tested positive for Covid-19 and will thus also miss the match against Verona, as well as the next couple of encounters.

Finally, Tiemoue Bakayoko is still recovering from his injury sustained in the match against Lazio. The same goes for Alessandro Florenzi, who should return at the end of the month, while Junior Messias’ recovery time is unknown for now.
