AC Milan’s strategy appears to have changed after the effects of the global pandemic on finances, according to a report.
MilanNews writes that the management want to secure nine signings before the season starts, but club policy has changed due to Covid. Before the pandemic, Elliott Management aimed to buy players of value who could grow, but now there is a lot of focus on the formula of loan with option to buy.
There is evidence that this formula works, as Fikayo Tomori is now a staple of the team, but obstacles can arise such as the Brahim Diaz case whereby Real Madrid are proving to be difficult in negotiations because they do not want to lose a key talent and are insisting on a buy-back.
The advantage of loan with option is that it is almost a ‘try before you buy’ formula, but most clubs are not willing to let their best players go without a guaranteed income.
