MN: Great responsibility falls back on Leao as Rebic suffers another frustrating set-back

By Oliver Fisher -

Ante Rebic sustained an injury the day before AC Milan’s trip to face Fiorentina, which means the attack is back to looking a bit thinner.

MilanNews writes how Junior Messias is back but must be used with extreme caution given he has currently only played a quarter of an hour so far this season, while Samu Castillejo will also be out and a fatigued Rafael Leao will have to start. Davide Calabria will also miss out due to a muscle problem sustained on Italy duty.

Regarding Rebic, the Croatian forward suffered a cramp during training today and will therefore be unavailable against La Viola which is another tough absence for Milan to deal with. It is his second stop, as from mid-October until the beginning of November Rebic he was out for around 20 days due to an ankle problem.

The extent of the flexor problem will have to be assessed but the fact is that his absence will very much be felt during a difficult phase of the season in which Milan will have to try and keep pace atop the table and stay in the Champions League.

Leao actually didn’t play much for Portugal, just coming on for almost half an hour against Ireland, so he took advantage of a relatively quiet week to recharge batteries after a fairly busy period in which he was almost always used due to Rebic’s absence.
