MN: Ibrahimovic offers approval of Milan midfield target – the details

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer mercato, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has approved of a target that the Rossoneri may pursue – he currently plays for one of the Swede’s former clubs.

The main offsets of the window will be a new central defender and a new No.9, two positions which have needed new investment in recent years, and this summer will be the time for it. However, there is also a desire to strengthen Milan’s midfield.

Additionally, given that Ismael Bennacer is a concrete target for some Saudi Pro League clubs, and there is a growing chance that he could leave, it adds to the need for reinforcement in the position. Even if he stays, his consistent injuries are an important factor that must be considered by the Rossoneri’s management.

There is also a need to add more defensive coverage to the ranks. Ismael Bennacer is the only out-and-out ‘defensive-minded’ midfielder, and even then, he attacks frequently, and this means there is extra coverage needed in the position.

Milan News writes that Milan will try to invest in a new holding midfielder this summer – it could be Sofyan Amrabat. The Moroccan midfielder will not be bought by Manchester United, and staying in Florence is not a guarantee, so a move to Milan could be a feasible option.

In December 2022, Ibrahimovic offered some praise to the midfielder, and given he has a large say in the club’s transfers, this could be significant in their decision.

‘Who do I like in Serie A? Kvaratskhelia is doing very well. Then I really like Fiorentina’s Amrabat, strong.”

  1. How about Grujic as well as another DM, much cheaper and could probably do the job. Stats-wise pretty good. Micada would appreciate that

    1. My go-to for DM would probably be Hojberg.
Now Amrabat might not be as bad as some here think. He didn’t look great this season, but which player who went to Man U this last decade actually succeeded ?
If we can get him for 15M or below, we might consider him a deputy and still look for a better profile, but that might be too much.

  2. This is the only time i heard something good from ibrahimovic if he brought amrabat then i will start trusting him

    1. Amrabat isn’t anything special even if you clearly like him. If you were to choose between Amrabat and Ederson, I bet you wouldn’t choose Amrabat.

      1. 20 ederson and one amrabat i will still choose amrabat there is no midfielder that is better than amrabat in Europe right now

        1. Amrabat is very good and he doesn’t deserve to even go to Man U, however I wish Milan can really push for him, very strong guy

    1. Cannot be IF, Casadei is a different type of player. But I agree, he’s a prospect that intrigues me too. Amrabat for 15 is a steal.
