MN: Ibrahimovic with Milan squad in Rome but Cardinale will not attend

By Oliver Fisher -

After watching the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie against Roma at San Siro last week, Gerry Cardinale will follow the game from overseas tonight.

Cardinale was in Milan from last Wednesday morning and sat in his seat at San Siro for the game against Roma, which ended in a 1-0 defeat after Gianluca Mancini’s first half header.

The RedBird Capital chief would have liked to see a winning and dominant Rossoneri but instead he left ‘disheartened’ after the defeat, at least as per a report that came out after the game.

That means the pressure is on Stefano Pioli to engineer a comeback, but MilanNews state that the Milan owner will not be present at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for the return leg. No reason is given, but we can presume other commitments have taken precedence.

Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived at the Hotel Parco dei Principi this morning and joined the team in retreat with Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani.

This afternoon the CEO went to the UEFA lunch with the Roma management and directors, while the Swede remained in the hotel with the Rossoneri squad. The Swede clearly wishes to remain close to the team on what is a monumental day.
