MN: Kessie has a chance to redeem himself at a familiar stomping ground

Franck Kessie must put his bad start to the season and Tuesday’s red card behind him and focus on another decisive performance against Atalanta.

As MilanNews recalls, Kessie fittingly put the decisive stamp on the season back in May when he scored a brace of penalties to ensure Milan’s return to the Champions League. He played 50 games in 2020-21, with 14 goals scored and 6 assists provided, gaining the nickname of ‘The President’.

However, the start to the current season has not been as sparkling, as he missed a penalty against Lazio and has not looked his usual self, with Tuesday’s match against Atletico Madrid being the point of realisation for many.

Within half an hour, by committing two fouls, he got a red card from Cakir that was harsh but also avoidable. Then there is the non-renewal of his contract with rumours about a move to PSG and Tottenham hanging over his head.

Nonetheless, Sunday at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo presents a chance for the Ivorian to begin to redeem himself, in a comfort zone of sorts. Kessie has proved to be a fundamental player, and the hope is that top form will return, along with a renewal of course if that is the case.
