MN: Lopetegui rejects West Ham for Milan but final decision has not been made

By Oliver Fisher -

Numerous sources are reporting that AC Milan are advancing in talks with Julen Lopetegui over the possibility of becoming the head coach, but now a report has claimed that no decision has been made.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Lopetegui is now the big favourite to replace Stefano Pioli and that Gerry Cardinale has even approved his potential appointment.

In addition to that, Fabrizio Romano stated this morning Milan ‘are advancing in talks with Lopetegui’ over the potential of taking over from Pioli at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Now, MilanNews are reporting that while Lopetegui is a ‘very hot’ track, the final decision ‘has not yet been made’ by Geoffrey Moncada, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the rest of the management.

One thing is true: the Basque coach has rejected a very important offer from West Ham in an economic sense to wait for Milan. There has been an approach from the Rossoneri’s side, but it is reiterated that the final call has not been made.

Lopetegui has had spells with Porto, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Wolves and the Spanish national team, and a report today outlined the way his teams tend to set up from a tactical point of view.

  1. Keep Pioli……

We are desperate to return to the top and there are CL winning coaches available..Tuchel, Zidane..but….#moneyball

  2. The fact that he is linked with us is a downright insult. At least get a coach who has potential/experience. Not some washed up coach at the end of his career who isnt wanted in ANY club serious of winning ANYTHING.

  3. This management has destroyed the recent reputation of the team. Coaches see how Pioli has been treated. They see that the roster is poorly built with no midfield. They know that the mercato will be erratic. They know that the money available is for Scaroni to eat at good tables and not for their own salary or the players. They know that they have to sht tf up because Jerry likes yes men. Magic Beane and his algorithm will find some Football Manager coach and management will continue to speak bs so the fans continue to spend their money.

    1. “Coaches see how Pioli has been treated.”

What does that mean? Are you actually saying that Pioli has been treated poorly by the club?
Pioli has had the support of everyone at the club, for at least a year too long.
He was given way too much power for a mediocre coach that he is.
What are you even talking about?

      1. Yeah sure he was asking for Tonali to be sold, Jovic as a striker, no backup for Théo and some cheap guys to fill the roster. He had to fight to keep Krunic when he found out that the midfield recruits were subpar players. High expectations, low investments, some people here could foresee what would happen but we were qualified as « pessimistic ». He’s not the one deciding for that trading-moneyball policy. Anyway the situation is chaotic now, let’s blame him.

        1. Blah, blah, blah.
          Same stale nonsense.
Tonali, the gambling degenerate has been suspended for betting on Milan games. Why are people like you still bringing up his name? If they didn’t sell him, he was going to sit at home just like you watching Milan play on TV.
The other players that were bought, Pioli approved of.
He had to fight to keep a player who wanted to leave, just so 2 months later he can bench him and not play him at all.
Just pure nonsense, but that’s all you have been writing here since June 5th of last year.
Move on. He doesn’t know you even exist.

  4. For a second year in a row their hit single is topping the all time charts of “songs to cry to”

Here are Gerry and The RedTurds with their hit single All the Wrong Moves!

  5. Zidane will cost, but would solve so many issues. Regardless of his pedigree as a manager which is top draw, he would be huge in keeping Theo and Mike, and he would demand respect from players like Leao who will worship this guy. He would also attract talent. When you have a legend of the game who lost of todays players grew up dreaming to be mixed Witt an atudslly talented manager…….no brainier, but……#moneyball

  6. If this news is true, then this Milan managers + owners + Ibra are crap.

The guy has no Italian experience. Only Spanish. And his records with Madrid are not fantastic. Just keep Pioli instead of fooling around.

Get Motta FFS. If Cardinale can’t beat Juventus to it, then his project is not convincing enough to win him over.
