MN: Maignan’s 2021 could be over if wrist ligament damage is found during surgery

AC Milan are holding their breath and waiting to discover the severity of Mike Maignan’s hand injury but he is expected to face a while out.

Carlo Pellegatti’s latest for MilanNews writes that Maignan is undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist after he sustained an injury while saving Mo Salah’s penalty at Anfield. The X-ray he had at the time ruled out a scaphoid fracture, but the pain never completely disappeared and that is why an arthroscopic operation is needed.

The best case scenario is that he will be out for six weeks, but he could be out for ten weeks if the wrist ligament is affected, so he could be back in early December or in the worst case scenario 2021 would be over.

That is why the management have decided to sign Antonio Mirante as a free agent in order to provide some cover for the experienced Ciprian Tatarusanu.
