By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan now seem almost certain to exercise their option to buy Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea at the end of the season, a report claims.

Tomori has been nothing short of sensational since his arrival in the January transfer window, and MilanNews reports that the Rossoneri are ‘crazy in love’ with the defender. In January the club chose to pursue Mohamed Simakan at first the Frenchman’s injury changed the strategy and Maldini decided to bet decisively on Fikayo, who had already been followed with great interest the previous summer.

Maldini and Massara worked intensely for ten days to snatch an option to buy set at €28m just in case he impressed between then and June, something which sent a section of Chelsea fans into a rage, but which created a huge advantage for Milan. The club’s intention is to sign Tomori outright in the event of a Champions League return as the club will invest that money to build the base for next season.

At the end of the season, ‘barring sensational twists’, the Rossoneri will sign Tomori permanently because he is a player that everyone likes and Elliott Management – Milan’s owners – have never pulled back when it comes to investing in talent.
