MN: Milan enjoying the calm before the storm – three daunting games beckon after the break

By Oliver Fisher -

The international break is very much the calm before the storm for AC Milan as their fixture list takes a challenging turn starting on September 12.

Upon returning from the break for the national teams, Stefano Pioli’s side will face Lazio on Sunday 12 September, Liverpool away on Wednesday 15 and Juventus away on Sunday 19. In one week therefore there are three huge games against three top coaches in Maurizio Sarri, Jurgen Klopp and Massimiliano Allegri.

As MilanNews writes, that week will provide the first indications on where Milan are at in relation to Serie A and the Champions League. The start to the season was positive and convincing with two wins from two games, five goals scored and one goal conceded, with some players standing out like Brahim Diaz, Sandro Tonali and Olivier Giroud.

However, if Milan are to go better than last season then that means fighting until the end for the Scudetto, and games against Lazio and Juve are never easy. When factoring in the added challenge of the Champions League groups stages – where they will face Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Porto – there are big tests on the horizon for a young group.
