MN: Milan taking steps to finalise Pavlovic and Emerson deals for Fonseca

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are intent on giving Paulo Fonseca two new defenders as soon as possible, with steps being made to sign Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal.

As reported by Milan News, the Rossoneri want to seal the deals for Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg and Emerson from Tottenham Hotspur as soon as they can so as to appease Fonseca.

With the start of the 2024/25 Serie A season fast approaching, Milan are aware that Fonseca needs some time to work with his new signings rather than suddenly having an influx of new players after the opening game against Torino on August 17.

The two players that Milan have been in the most concrete discussions for so far are Pavlovic and Emerson and there is a belief that the deals can be done quickly.

The two players have been pushing for moves to Milan but there are gaps in valuation between the clubs that need to be closed first.

The gap for Emerson is around €10m which means some proper negotiation needs to take place if the Rossoneri are to sign him. There is less of a distance with Red Bull Salzburg for Pavlovic and he could be the next man through the door after Alvaro Morata.

    1. Why are people keep putting Saelemaekers at RB?
When was the last time you saw him play that position?
If Royal comes he will start.

  1. There was an interview published with Vito Angele done by The Italian Football Podcast. If you have not checked out this podcast, highly recommended.

Here are some of the key points from Vito:

    – The turnaround on Zee was NOT due to commissions. It was a pivot (although not specifically said) after a meeting with management and coach. My guess is Fonseca likely pushed for a classic 9. Also it was mentioned that it was a budget issue with being able to reinforce more positions by NOT spending that money on Zee.

-No interest in Abraham. There have been contacts for Fulkrug.

    – Theo, Mike and Leao are ask staying.

-Milan is looking to make Theo captain this season.

    – There is no longer faith in Calabria to start at RB. That means, unfortunately, Emerson will arrive and Florenzi will leave this summer.

-Samardzic is coming but only after someone in midfield is sold, likely Adli. No on Guler because of Lazar. There are no offers for Bennacer but if Milan receive the release clause, they will let him go.

-Milan doesn’t want to spend more than 20mil on Fofana. Ongoing negotiation. Atletico isn’t pleased at how Morata deal went down so they are in fact going after Milan targets.

-Rabiot will not come. No interest in Colombian Dios or alternatives.

-Pavlovic is close. Thiaw will be sold with a high enough offer but no offers from NUFC have been received.

    -Colombo and Maldini will leave.

-Milan will be making sales this summer and based on amounts received there might be moves for additional players.

Is anyone hasn’t checked out The Italian Football Podcast, in highly recommend it.

    1. More accurate than 99% news here.

From start we knew Milan won’t pay such money for Rabiot, and he doesn’t have any reason to lower his salary and join Milan while having better options. Same for other expensive players like Abraham. Also, by looking at how much they try to negotiate every single million euro, they simply wouldn’t have that money to spent on Zirkzee. They have max 40-50 million budget at the moment, minus Morata makes it around 30 million now, and they want to buy 3 players. That’s why we talk about cheap skit like Emerson for 10mil, rest for Pavlovic.

Nobody else will come, unless someone is sold. That’s all so don’t get your hopes too high.

    2. Thank you for this input. I’ll comment on some of those points.
1, 6&7: Some of us (including myself) suspected that the budget wasn’t as high as advertised by some articles. The counter-argument was then that we were willing to go for Zirkzee and thus spend big money, but it seems indeed that had we gotten Zirkzee, we would probably go for less players in the other positions. So I think the original budget is around 50-60M€ (before getting Morata) including the selling of CDK and others, and thus we have around 15M€ for 3 players and we do need to sell. Pity…
2- Fullkrug is not a priority IMO. Plus what is the additionnal value of having 2 31y/o who each score around 15 goals a year ? Might as well go for a different profile.
3- It doesn’t matter that they say about Theo and Mike. If they fail to renew to them, they WILL leave eventually and maybe even for free.
4- Theo is the kind of guy who gets a yellow or a red every now and then for fighting or diving and we want to make him captain ?
5- It’s a shame to let go of Florenzi. I hope Tottenham insists and that we abandon Emerson.
7- Is why we either need to get deals quickly and not allow them to drag because of 2M€ or 3M€ or move on to another target. Had we paid 18M€ few days ago we might have gotten Fofana (not that I find him suitable but still) before their owner rages.
      8- Good.
9- Define close. Fofana was also close.
10- So we will not even grant the coach who asked for more time with Colombo ?
11- Nothing to say about this.

      1. “1, 6&7: Some of us (including myself) suspected that the budget wasn’t as high as advertised by some articles. This should not have been a mystery. When has management ever stated “we have N to spend this summer”? The budget has always been 50M without sales, and it was the same this summer. 50M, plus ~30M for the projected sales of CDK and Salad. The CDK money won’t arrive until 2025, and Salad is still on the books. Hence 50M is what we have currently without other sales. Subtract Morata and add Simic and we’ve got 40M at the moment. Pavlovic will come for max 25, Fofana who knows but let’s pretend Atletico accept 20 after all, Royal is 20, and Samardzic is 15 with Pobega going the other way and you’re talking about 80M. Then they’re talking about 40M to sell Thiaw, which coincidently brings us to 80M with the inclusion of the remaining budget. And that’s it. Any further signings will be dependent on further sales, like Colombo, Maldini and Salad, who together could bring another 15-20M, which ought to be spent on another CB, if you ask me, because three will have left (Thiaw, Kjaer, Simic).

      2. ACM budget only 50m euro + sale player ( same budget with previous management) . 50 – 13 = 37m euro left but ACM sell daniel maldini 3m euro to monza & simic 3m euro to anderlecht that make 37 + 6 = 43m euro available for fofana & pavlovic. Lazar wont coming unless bennacer leave. The other not important or just skip like emerson ,abraham ,full krug. Rabbiot good but will need to break salary cap 7m euro to sign him so he wont coming. Florenzi can go but keep calabria to compete with kalulu for RB spot

    3. “Atletico isn’t pleased at how Morata deal went down so they are in fact going after Milan targets.”

How stupid is this? There was a release clause. What did they want, us to ask permission to activate the release clause? And then they’re going to sign whoever we’re trying to sign just because, regardless of their actual needs? Lol.

    4. Still doesn’t really make sense we already had Giroud, Kjaer and Caldara leaving who did have high wages. Than we sold Simic and the money for Krunic we also just received. Even after buying Morata and Jimenez I’m pretty sure our budget now is still around 45 million that is without any sale. Yet what I don’t understand is why don’t we ever make loan deals with obligations to buy instead of this strategy of offering less than tje request.

    5. Nema T gets a bit over the top sometimes but beyond that I took find this to be an excellent source of news.

Given the hosts at Juve and Inter fans their “outsider” perspective on ACM is always a breathe of fresh air.

  2. I just can’t wrap my little brain around this. Out of all the available rb players, that can also play lb and cb in a pinch, why for the love of cthulhu would anyone go after Emerson? He’s not even among top 10 candidates and for cherry on top takes a noneu spot

    1. They value his EPL experience apparently. It’s not a signing that makes sense to me. But it seems Calabria is getting phased out and this guy is apparently supposed to take over.

I don’t know if anyone is excited over him.

      1. Oh yeah, dude played 79 games aka 5158 minutes there. So valuable. Do they even know we play in serie a not epl? It seems like they go out of their way to not buy from serie a.

      2. Id guess Fonseca values his season under Conte when he started almost every game. The way that Fonseca sets the team up ends up looking like conte a lot of the time, the fullbacks play like wingbacks who have to be able to move with a low line when the ball is deep as well as cover wingers high up the pitch. I think they are evaluating him based on being in a similar style of play.

Fitness is going to likely be a key, like with Conte, No lazy possessions they were allowed last season, but always asking questions over and over and reacting aggressively when the ball is lost.

        1. The same fonseca that seems content with kalulu in rb?

Yeah I doubt fonseca has any real say over transfers, same as pioli didn’t have any real say

  3. why the hell are we going for emerson i rather play salemakers there cant do anything good dont need him and im saying this as a brazilian he is not good enough for milan. hopefully man united over pay again and will get him
