MN: ‘Not worn out’ – Fofana remains Milan’s preference following ‘concrete’ Kone interest

By Ben Dixon -

This summer seems to be one of old flames for AC Milan, and more specifically, re-visiting them. However, a report has claimed that whilst past flings can be revisited, it may not mark a change in plans.

Since the mercato opened, and even before then, Youssouf Fofana has been the leading name on Milan’s midfield shortlist. However, there have been issues in the process of negotiating with his current club, AS Monaco.

An agreement has already been made between the club and the player, but there remains a distance between the two clubs, leading the French midfielder to ask for clarity about the situation, given he has stated his desire to become a Milanista.

With the deal not finalised, though, there is a chance the midfielder could move elsewhere, so the Diavolo have kept their options open, and earlier today, a report suggested that they had added Manu Kone to their shortlist.

Nevertheless, a report from Milan News has suggested that the plans have not changed and Fofana is still the priority. Whilst the management appreciates the profile of Kone, he is seen as a ‘valid alternative’ to Fofana with the path to their preference ‘not worn out’.

It remains to be seen when a deal will be closed for Fofana, but it seems Milan have a preference and will not give up on it.

    1. Would like both of them. No I don’t think they’re amazing world class Italian talents, but Ricci is good and would fit the role we need, plus Casadei is young and has potential. Would be nice if a former Inter youth player became a star at Milan 😀

But the management don’t even seem to be enquiring in this direction, they need players to be with release clause or expiring contracts only.

(Well that or they’re absolutely awful rejects like Emerson Royale)

      1. Rici is not a DM, look at his stats. Idk about Casadei but any player who chooses to go to Chelsea at that age isn’t particularly bright.

        Prati is the one.

  1. I don’t care to know if Fofana is still the main interest, what did we do about that deal ? Last time I checked we offered 14M€+bonuses and then the price was changed to (or always was ?) 35M€.
Are the 2 teams still in contact ? Does Milan intend to improve their offer ? What is the maximum we can actually pay for a player ?

  2. Why we don’t put 4 or 5mill more so they can be happy????? We supposedly have the money to pay zirkzee clause when he was at bologna which was 40m so we know we can improve the offer. But pls someone explain it to me why they focusing on the friendlies without trying to buy players to improve the squad?????????

    1. Well the budget is lower (like way lower) than initially reported+some of the money (like CDK’s money) won’t come until 2025.
ACM1899 shared details from a podcast that one of the reasons we moved away from Zirkzee was indeed that he costed too much.
Despite needing only 3 main targets (2 since Morata is with us), it seems we’re targeting quite a lot (Fullkrug, Fofana, Samardzic, Pavlovic and Royal), so we can’t (or we won’t) spend more than 15M€ per target unless we sell.

    1. Wouldn’t it be funny to miss out on Fofana due ~2M€ and end up buying a more expensive but far inferior player in the last week of the mercato just because Furlani & co wanted to save a few coins. No. It wouldn’t. FFS. Just get the deal done. Now.

  3. Don’t waste our time; shift ground, and get this Fofana guy. Do we always have to go for second choice, when our first choice has a desire to come. We have more deadwood than the other top clubs because of our transfer policy. We can’t continue like this.

  4. Honestly the best solution is for us to wait 6 months and negotiate a free transfer with fofana, that way we dont pay a cent to Monaco. He can join next season. For this season, go after either Samuel Ricci from Torino or Arambat. Neither will cost silly money and will help make our squad stronger. Most important of all, keep bennacer and adli.

  5. You guys are jerks. Every time the mercato changes season it’s always like this. In the end, you only get dessert players. Damn it

  6. They leaked fake rumours at the end of last season regarding the budget being 100 million to sell season tickets and merchandise.

With only 13 million spent on Morata they only have 45 million to spend. No way they jeopardize an entire pre season and preperation, compromise the team for an entire year by waiting to close deals at the end of the window if we truly had that money.

  7. AC Milan has many pivots to use now. I believe we will wait 1-2 mid sold first before buy 1. And the most likely is Yacine Adli because his no. already taken by Alvaro Morata and use no. 94 in friendly.

ACM mids : Tijjani Reijnders & Ruben Loftus-Cheeks (Must be the starting pivots because their performances past season and Tijjani’s key performances at Euro 2024 for Deutch). Ismael Bennacer & Tomasso Pobega will be the rotation for the starters due to Bennacer’s quality & Pobega’s physical, mature & Club-Grown Regulation. Then we had Yacine Adli, Alessandro Florenzi (always play mid in 2 friendly matches). Then we have Kevin Zeroli (maybe can be an AMC too, but he might be the pivots, but he will play at Milan Futuro too).

Florenzi might stay because he has immense quality when playing, but his playing time always little because of Injuries.
