MN: Milan given Maignan boost ahead of second leg against Roma

By Oliver Fisher -

Good news has emerged from Milanello today regarding Mike Maignan after his absence in the game against Sassuolo yesterday.

MilanNews have provided an update on the condition of Maignan after also giving the latest on the centre-back pairing of Simon Kjaer and Malick Thiaw who appeared to pick up problems in the second half of the 3-3 draw at the Mapei Stadium.

Maignan meanwhile missed yesterday’s match due to fatigue but he returned to training with the rest of the squad today at Milanello. Therefore, the French goalkeeper will be available against Roma in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

There was some surprise when it was confirmed that Maignan would not be making the trip with the team to Reggio Emilia, but given that he is already back in training it seems it was just a case of workload management rather than the presence of an actual issue.

One thing is for sure: Milan will have to protect his goal a lot better than they did for Marco Sportiello yesterday, with Sassuolo scoring three goals inside the opening hour of the game in what was a shambolic defensive performance again from Stefano Pioli’s side, which was heavily rotated.
