MN: Milan left to regret Bennacer’s absence yet again – the latest on his recovery

By Oliver Fisher -

The importance of Ismael Bennacer for Milan is even clearer after yesterday’s defeat against Sassuolo, according to a report.

The Rossoneri suffered arguably their most damaging defeat yet as they were beaten 2-1 against Roberto De Zerbi’s men despite being 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go. A lack of composure and control was evident from Pioli’s side, and now the top four race is wide open.

As MilanNews writes, the last 3 defeats suffered by Milan in the league (Sassuolo, Napoli and Inter) all occurred with Bennacer out due to injury. The Algeria international has played only 15 of 32 Serie A games so far this season of which 11 came as a starter.

In the other 17 matches, Bennacer has always been unavailable which must make the management think about the future. The ankle problem that kept him out yesterday against Sassuolo has yet to be completely recovered from and as a result the midfielder is also in doubt for the game against Lazio on Monday.

Bennacer is fundamental for Milan and for Pioli’s schemes both in the defensive phase and in the offensive phase, but he can only be decisive when he is on the pitch, and further setbacks like yesterday’s are no longer allowed.
