MN: Milan linked with Argentine defender likened to De Ligt – the situation

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan hold an interest in young Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino who currently plays for Boca Juniors and has been likened to Matthijs de Ligt.

As reported by Milan News, the 18-year-old defender could be one for the future if Milan were to take a punt on his promising displays.

He looks to be one of the most promising young players in Argentina right now, and coming through the ranks at Boca gives Anselmino a certain level of pedigree.

His contract with the club runs until summer 2028 but there is a €20m release clause. He made his first-team debut for Boca in June 2023, being introduced from the bench to replace an injured player. Since then, he has played seven times.

He is a tall right-footed defender who plays in a similar fashion to Bayern Munich’s De Ligt, or even Real Sociedad’s Robin Le Normand. He is good with his feet, strong in the air, and marks opponents very tightly.

Milan are not the only European side to be linked with Anselmino, with Premier League giants Manchester United also tempted to make a move in the near future.

It remains to be seen whether a price beneath his €20m release clause can be negotiated, but Milan are looking to make a number of moves in various positions this summer.

  1. Always go for Argentina defenders and they never perform in Milan. We need European defenders . Don’t know why Milan always like cheaper ways of doing things.

    1. As we have not so rich American owners and we are playing in a league that is not even half as rich as premier league or saudi teams which option do you think Milan should take, we can’t buy ready made players like man city and madrid because we don’t have rich owners and are playing in serie a

    2. I doubt we’ll go for him if price is more than 10 mill…if it’s less (like 5 mill) maybe he’ll be good for the U23 project and pair with Pellegrino?

It was a long time ago, but I don’t think that Roberto Ayala performed badly at Milan, despite being with Milan only 2 seasons.

Musacchio came at the same time as Bonucci and got pushed aside…

That said, I don’t think that Argentina was distinguished in the past 20 years for great defenders, I think that defense was actually the worst part in their NT even with players like Mascherano and Otamendi.
