MN: Milan management face a tough call as one spot is open for two wingers

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s lack of quality on the right wing threatened to hurt them in their Scudetto pursuit and now the management have a tough decision to make.

On one flank Rafael Leao alone led Milan to win the title with big goals and important assists, while on the other side Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias never fully convinced, experiencing difficulties in the most crucial moments of the season.

MilanNews confirms the earlier reports suggesting that Marco Asensio is a name that pleases both Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara but there are two problems: the €30m asking price of Real Madrid and the player’s salary demands.

If on the one hand Milan are working on the new starter for the right wing, on the other hand they are also discussing who will stay out of Saelemaekers or Messias. The Belgian is younger and more flexible but because of this he has a bigger market and could generate a capital gain on the €7m paid to sign him.

The Brazilian is also liked by the management but the cost of making the loan move a permanent deal is considered too high given that Crotone are now in Serie C and he is in his 30s. Tough decisions must therefore be made.

  1. If the management are sensible, this is not a topic for discussion, in all parameters Alexis is a far better player, and better option in the long run, he is technically and tactically better,he is a Belgian international,he is younger, more flexible, much more lively, two footed, Messias is already 31, a player of below average skill, has anyone bothered to ask why he did not make it while he is younger, he has already peaked, and honestly is more suited to a serie b team, he has had his time in the sun, let him give way…

    1. But this same person help Milan to win the scudeto because he has goals scoring mentality he scored at least 6 goals, but samaekers always waistful for the pass two seasons he didn’t score up to four goals as a starter, is this the kind of player that we can trust even as a second choice? To me let him go or loan him then singn another winger and allow messias as backup.

    2. Alexis is better lol at the moment, Messias is better.
Better alexis has scored as much g+A in 2 seasons as Messias in 1

  2. Saele has more potential; but he was horribly wasteful.
Dybala or Asensio or Berardi would all be a great step up. We need to spend some money to upgrade this position which is the weakest position we had on the field this past year. If we really want to be more competitive in Champions League, we need a big upgrade at RW.

Dembele is so overrated… terrible suggestion. Very inconsistent and often lazy.
