MN: Form between breaks shows Milan’s only consistency is inconsistency

AC Milan fell to a 2-1 defeat against Fiorentina last night at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and it means they will go into another international break licking their wounds.

As MilanNews recall, in September just before the first international break we were talking about a horror start to the season for Milan, and now in October we are still talking about a very negative start to the season, despite the Rossoneri having won the derby and two other league matches.

If playing at San Siro helps the team concentrate, when they leave their home stadium things seem to fall apart, as the 2-1 defeat away against Parma, the 2-2 draw against Lazio, the 1-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen and last night’s game in Florence shows.

The report adds how the situation seems difficult to straighten out. The pattern already seems seems clear: Fonseca’s Milan, judging from what we see now on the pitch between play and attitude, will win a couple of games in a row, then lose again, then draw, then maybe win again.

It is an infinite loop that will be exhausting and it is what will hold them back from challenging for trophies. The only consistency for Milan – and this stretches back to the end of Stefano Pioli’s tenure – is inconsistency.

  1. We can’t afford to bob along with a rabbit being pulled out of the hat just when we have had enough…Pioli was good at that houdini act and it cost us dearly…and the same pattern might play itself out with Fonseca if early indications are anything to go by. Pull the plug and get Sarri…

    1. As things stand Fonseca can be accused of a lot and rightfully so but not screaming enough is probably not one of the things because he has already been yellow carded twice on the sideline from what I can recollect.

  2. This season is gonna be full of ups and downs. There as a lot of kinks to work out. With Fonseca I don’t think we are challenging for any silverware this season. I think maybe closer to the end of season we might have an understanding of what the team will look like under him and whether it is right to continue with Fonseca or not.

Sacking him mid season will be an even bigger failure than appointing him in the first place. But at this point there’s no choice than to let him coach the season out and reassess.
