We were used to always seeing Milan among the top eight Champions League teams, as well as lifting the competition’s trophy. Then came the tough years, from struggling already in the group stage to missing out entirely.
A fluctuating decade (and a half) that condemned Milan to 81st place in the UEFA ranking, as highlighted by MilanNews.it. After a year without Europe, Milan will reappear on the continental scene in September to try to secure a ticket to the group stage.
The Rossoneri have the obligation, in a very short time, to overcome the qualifiers and, subsequently, compete for the trophy. Obviously, the hope for next season is to qualify for the Champions League and the Europa League can become a second way.
Not qualifying for Europe means losing healthy exposure and a lot of revenue, which a top club like Milan can’t afford it. Therefore, doing well in the league or, alternatively, trying to win the Europa League becomes a necessity for the club.
After all, 81st place isn’t good enough for Milan and they now need to build on the fantastic performances we saw after the league restart.
