MN: Milan ready to bet on Celtic star for defence – taking a look at Kristoffer Ajer

By Isak Möller -

Fiorentina shooting high for Nikola Milenkovic has prompted Milan to look elsewhere in their search for a centre-back. Kristoffer Ajer is now back on their radar and a transfer seems very possible.

Until Alessio Romagnoli is back, the Rossoneri only have Leo Duarte and Matteo Gabbia to rely on for the role alongside Simon Kjaer. The Italian is arguably promising, but a quality player is needed now to ensure the defensive stability.

Even with the return of the captain, the situation wouldn’t be great as Milan are competing on three fronts this season. Therefore, a centre-back is needed and as highlighted by MilanNews.it, Kristoffer Ajer could be the one.

Ajer is a young defender, 22-years-old to be exact, with very special characteristics. The Norwegian is very tall (198 centimetres) but despite this, he also has important technical skills that aren’t common among defenders.

The former Lillestrom man is capable of setting up play with great naturalness, comfortable with the ball when it comes to both short and long passes. He used to play as a midfielder in his youth and this has certainly helped him.

In other words, a secure right-foot and length sets him up. However, he’s rather thin for his length and this sometimes penalizes him in aerial duels, but also helps him when it comes to recoveries and tackling.

From what has been reported in the last few hours, Milan could sign him for around €15m and potentially even with a loan formula. A meeting is scheduled with the player’s agent next week and this could result in some new updates.
