MN: Milan need the Scudetto version of Tomori but it has been missing for a while

Fikayo Tomori was a big part of why AC Milan won the league title in 2021-22, but since that season he has struggled to repeat those same high levels and it has continued into the current campaign.

As MilanNews write, Tomori has been on the field for almost every minute of the 2024-25 campaign for Milan. In fact, only against Liverpool did he come off with six minutes to go, while in the league he remained on the bench in the match at San Siro against Venezia due to rotation.

In the game against Fiorentina before the break, we saw Tomori pick up a yellow card for exaggerated protests towards the referee Luca Pairetto, commit a very serious error before Fiorentina’s winning goal and have a leading part in the penalty saga that has dominated the headlines since.

These are signs of impatience and frustration, because the Englishman himself knows perfectly well that he is not at the level of when he arrived at Milanello, or in 2021-22 when Milan won the title above all thanks to the fact they conceded twice in the final 11 games of the season.

The data and comparisons are worrying with the number of balls recovered, tackles and duels won all down. His strengths have become weaknesses, because Tomori is a defender who used to shine because of his aggression, anticipation, positioning and athleticism, but now it is letting him down.

Tomori knows that he can be a future captain of Milan, but it is clear that the former Chelsea man must return to being the leader of a few seasons ago. Time might be running out because Milan -despite considering him a leader – could also take a step back and sell him for a significant sum next summer.

  1. Tomori should be sold by the age of 30…
    Or even before…

Tomori Leao Hernandez Maignan reached their top level. What Americans did good is they didn’t went crazy with salaries. We can see how difficult is to give player 5 mill net without cover how is going to play on the field.

After Elliott started cleaning the squad, now we have only Origi, Calabria, Florenzi who are on good net salaries but without any impact in the team.

We need to wait and see what will happen with Theo and of course Abraham. But not all 25 first team squad players are going to show their best play in season.

  2. Tomori is the problem this month for Sempremilan as was Theo/Leao last month.

Don’t know which player has played all career without making errors.

    1. Well each month some players flop their play. So there is missing piece to synchronise team and get that synergy what is needed to get good results in a row.
Good thing is on bench we have names like Musah Okafor Ruben still Chukwueze Thiaw, and not as we can remember Vranckx Dest etc which was players who Pioli used as a rotation.
What would happen if Fonseca did rotated against Fiorentina, and put Pavlovic before Gabbia and Okafor in for Abraham ?

      We might get better result.

So Fonseca should do rotation and also formation change, to force players to focus more on every game.

I am speaking now for all players. Fonseca should create such a team where players can’t be sure if they are going to start next match or not…

Long term better result should be reached because less injuries should happen as well.

  3. It is not about his errors, mistakes or decline in form. It is all about his ATTITUDE which potentially ruined his future with Milan. Man idgaf how good a player is but with an attitude towards management and teammates, he is garbage in the end.
