MN: Milan’s stance on Leao clearly outlined – PSG ‘will try’

By Ben Dixon -

With reports suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Rafael Leao, a report has suggested that AC Milan have outlined their stance on the situation.

With Kylian Mbappe’s situation at the Parisian club constantly changing, there is a need to look for a concrete option next year, and should the Frenchman depart to Real Madrid, they need to have a player of substantial quality ready to replace him.

Rafael Leao is the player in mind, and he is someone who the club have held a long-term interest in, but as MilanNews reports, there are no plans to sell the Portuguese winger for much less than his release clause of €175million, a figure that the French Giants could easily afford.

The clause is only active at the start of July to allow the Rossoneri to pursue other options with enough time to find their replacement and then bed them into the squad. However, if no offer matching their valuation arrives, the Diavolo will not sell.

This is something that PSG are aware of, though. They know they will have to dig deep into their pockets for the Portuguese star, and they will make attempts, but it will not be an easy feat to pry Leao from Milan.

  1. The 175m clause is only active for a period in July. Outside of that any club can negotiate with Milan.

I’m afraid PSG have the advantage as they are the only realistic buyers

He is definately not going to madrid/barca
Bayern are stacked with wingers and wont spend that kind of money
Chelsea, Man U and Newcastle will not be able to spend that due to ffp and Leao is not going to want to go to those clubs

Liverpool and arsenal again don’t have that money and don’t need him.
Man City – Don’t need him and Guardiola would never have him

So it’ PSG or staying at Milan

    1. Any club can negotiate regardless of that clause. That clause is not a protection. That clause allow the buyer to buy without needing any negotiation.

So if P$G want to buy at lower cost, they have to negotiate. If P$G want to avoid any negotiation, they can activate the clause at certain period by paying 175m (single payment).

  2. Leao, this season proved that he couldn’t handle the pressure of being the highest paid player and the man on a team. Imagine the pressure that will come if he is sold for over 135 million, which will make him the 3rd highest transfer in football history. On top of that, imagine the pressure of replacing the best player in the world.
PSG should thread lightly. Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don’t make.
I don’t expect huge offers from PSG, nor i expect Leao to be sold this summer.
You should buy low and sell high. Leao’s value since the start of 2023 is plummeting.
Luis Campos isn’t Leonardo. Plus they already have Dembele and Barcola, for whom they paid 45 mil last summer. Dembele and Leao are the same player. They can run fast but can’t score. They also still have Asencio, Lee Kang In and Kolo Muani, plus Goncalo Ramos.
Is Leao really an upgrade over those players?
Is Leao 1v1 style really a fit for Luis Enrique team concert possession style football?
Is Leao signing bringing you closer to your ultimate goal, which is winning the UCL?
You will essentially replacing a player who has scored 43 UCL goals with a player who has scored 3, even though they are the same age.

    1. « You should buy low and sell high. »

Yes, this is exactly how the last 20 winners of the Champion’s League have won it. We should make this the motto of the club and print it on the collar of our sixth or seventh jersey.

    1. In an ideal world we sell Leao to PSG for 175m and CDK for 22m.
      That gives us 200m
Offer Napoli 200m for Kvara + Osihmen!

      I’d be happy with that

Use our usual 50m transfer budget to buy a good DM and have a real crack at winning CL
