MN: Milan still interested in €60m RB Leipzig star; relationship with entourage is ‘excellent’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan remain interested in the idea of signing RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano this summer, according to a report.

MilanNews.it are reporting that the Frenchman is still in the sights of the Rossoneri having been linked since the summer, when he was offered by his agent to Boban and Maldini. Relations with the representatives of the centre-back have remained excellent and Milan in view of the next market could exploit them to get closer to Upamecano, especially if the arrival of Ralf Rangnick should occur.

The two know each other well, both for having worked together at Red Bull Salzburg and in Germany at Leipzig, and now a new opportunity could arise at Milan. The defender’s contract expires in June 2021, but Leipzig’s demands remain very high, with several outlets claiming he will have a €60m release clause once the window reopens.

The report continues by stating that there are no ongoing negotiations and only interest at this stage, but in the past few days his agents have taken a few steps for a survey in view of the summer when the Rossoneri will probably have to revolutionise the squad again.

They would like to partner captain Alessio Romagnoli with another top-class defender given that Mateo Musacchio could be sold, while there are doubts about the future of Simon Kjaer and the recovery of Leo Duarte.
