MN: Milan players handed three days off by Pioli after Lecce draw

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan failed to clinch a win before the international break and only came away with one point from their game against Lecce. In need of rest, the Rossoneri players have been given three days off by Stefano Pioli.

It was another disappointing second-half performance from Pioli’s men, who squandered what looked like a comfortable 2-0 lead. As a result, Milan have claimed just two points in their last four leagues, which is simply unacceptable.

According to MilanNews, Pioli has decided to give the players three days of rest. That was always going to be the case, regardless of the result, as the international break is underway. There’s no need for the player to start earlier than that, with the Fiorentina clash scheduled two weeks from now.

Davide Calabria and Rafael Leao are called up for international duty but will remain at Milanello during the break. The former is suffering from an overload in his left thigh, while the winger has sustained a first-degree hamstring injury (read more here).

The hope is that Leao will be back for the crucial clash against Borussia Dortmund on November 28. After the win against PSG, a win against the German side would put the Rossoneri in a very good position.

    1. Oh i see you made a comment in a different article and that was exactly what you want well it might be good to get some rest but giving them a week off isnt great for form either and especially as a lot of those who stays back at milanello due to the international break doesnt play that much minutes to begin with so at least in my view it shouldnt be necessary to give them that long a vacation.

      1. I’m not sure it’s good to set a precedent that some players are “different” from others, but Leao and Pulisic SHOULD take a full week off before coming back. Perhaps there are a handful of other players that could legitimately benefit from a week of rest, so that it’s not just the two of them?

I agree that three days is more than enough for the players who were not going on international duty, but we have two weeks to get several important players back, and need to make sure that they’re actually healed and ready for the rest of the season.

        1. Leao is injured so most likely he wont do anything for a week but i also spoke more in general of those players staying back at good health and i was also of the view that JT did the same. Pulisic is also semi injured so i doubt he will have a hard workload next week either.

      2. From a physiological standpoint a week off would do wonders. The players could also use the time to mentally refresh themselves. The team could still prepare tactically via web meetings.

      3. From a physiological standpoint a week off would do wonders. Further, the team could mentally refresh as well. During that time away from Milanello they team could still prepare for Fiorentina via web meetings.
