AC Milan have got a non-EU slot back after today’s ruling, but they are not expected to use it to sign Daichi Kamada on a free transfer.
The FIGC has this morning decided that players with Swiss and British citizenship are equivalent to EU citizens in all respects, and these provisions will apply with reference to the 2023-24 season too, meaning they are effective immediately.
What that means for Milan is that the signing of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea no longer occupies one of the two slots permitted per year to register non-EU players, so after Samuel Chukwueze joins there will be one left.
This had given momentary rise to speculation that Kamada could become a target again after the intense links last month, but MilanNews writes that the Japan international is no longer a target for the Rossoneri.
However, new scenarios are opening up for other roles that the club wants to reinforce, and the ruling certainly allows a greater degree of flexibility.
