MN: Milan players at World Cup have eight-year long drought to break – the stat

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will have seven players present at the World Cup and quite a few of them are expected to get a lot of playing time. In addition to showing their value to the world, there is another incentive for the players.

As highlighted by MilanNews, a Milan player hasn’t scored at the World Cup since Mario Balotelli and Keisuke Honda back in 2014. Five players were called up four years ago, but none of them scored: Cristian Zapata, Ivan Strinic, Lucas Biglia, Nikola Kalinic and Andre Silva.

Olivier Giroud will surely get on the scoresheet this tournament and could thus break the drought. It remains to be seen if he will do it or if some of the other players will beat him to it, such as Rafael Leao or perhaps even Theo Hernandez.

Fode Ballo-Toure could be the first one to take the pitch as Senegal will play at 17:00 CET tomorrow, but he might not start. Sergino Dest will surely start for USA three hours later as they will take on Wales in their opening game.
