MN: The reason Milan may not read into Villarreal CEO’s Chukwueze comments

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan’s transfer negotiators may not be reading too much into the recent comments from Villarreal CEO Roig Negueroles about Samuel Chukwueze, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, the likes of Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada will probably find themselves ignoring the very calm comments of Negueroles.

He spoke on Monday about how despite their only being a year left on the contract of the Nigerian winger, there is no desperation for Villarreal to sell the player.

“We are not in balance, we are still out of budget, we are at the highest salary level we can afford. So either we play in the Champions League, or it’s complicated,” the CEO said on Monday.

“But we will have to see if some offer comes along that is advantageous for all three parties. In this case, no offer has arrived yet, and he has an extra year on his contract. What we are clear about is that if something very good does not come along, he will continue with us.”

Milan will take this with a pinch of salt, as there is limited logic in the idea of a club that professes to not be financially stable choosing to turn down a decent transfer fee just to keep a player for one year and lose him for free.

Milan would not want to go above €20-25 million for Chukwueze, but given his contract, they may try and go lower than €20m and test Villarreal’s resolve.

  1. So a club that let 3 stars leave for nothing think that another one won’t keep a player that can help the them secure an additional 50 million in revenues the next season by qualifying for Europe the next season? Take that with a pinch of salt too.

  2. That’s fine but more and more teams are interested in him so why not start the negotiations? Even put in an official offer of 14-15 million and hope to close it quick with 18-20m. Berardi already went to Lazio so we better hurry up and get this team going.

  3. “Berardi already went to Lazio…”, we do we keep assuming that we’ve “missed out” on certain players? We were not moving for Berardi. His name is irrelevant vis-a-vis Chukwueze. More to the point, how do we know we’re actually moving for Chukwueze?

    1. Antovitiello ( reliable source ) : villarreal asking price 20m euro . AC Milan will try lower that amount with negotiate. In my personal opinion i think furlani dont want to spend more than 20m euro for RW because he still want to buy DMF and focus free transfer striker like marcus . AC Milan budget still same like last season 50m euro + sales player . Assuming RW cost 20m euro , DMF 20m euro and we need 2 DMF due to aster & bakayoko departure also long injury bennacer till december or january. More complicated if ACM failed to get marcus , we will end with striker giroud, origi and colombo next season . Cannot hope too high from money sales player because rebic, origi, junior, ballotoure only have low value below 10m euro each player
