MN: The reason Milan may not read into Villarreal CEO’s Chukwueze comments

AC Milan’s transfer negotiators may not be reading too much into the recent comments from Villarreal CEO Roig Negueroles about Samuel Chukwueze, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, the likes of Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada will probably find themselves ignoring the very calm comments of Negueroles.

He spoke on Monday about how despite their only being a year left on the contract of the Nigerian winger, there is no desperation for Villarreal to sell the player.

“We are not in balance, we are still out of budget, we are at the highest salary level we can afford. So either we play in the Champions League, or it’s complicated,” the CEO said on Monday.

“But we will have to see if some offer comes along that is advantageous for all three parties. In this case, no offer has arrived yet, and he has an extra year on his contract. What we are clear about is that if something very good does not come along, he will continue with us.”

Milan will take this with a pinch of salt, as there is limited logic in the idea of a club that professes to not be financially stable choosing to turn down a decent transfer fee just to keep a player for one year and lose him for free.

Milan would not want to go above €20-25 million for Chukwueze, but given his contract, they may try and go lower than €20m and test Villarreal’s resolve.
