MN: Morata to Milan a done deal – details on medical and costs of the operation

By Ben Dixon -

In the past week, the links between AC Milan and Alvaro Morata became much stronger, and now, it seems the move could be completed, pending a medical this week.

When the Joshua Zirkzee move broke down, there were two ways of going around the situation, go into panic mode, or do what Milan did, and stay calm, knowing that they had an extensive list of targets waiting in the wings.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Paulo Fonseca was stalling the move, and the reasoning was that his preference for a striker was a different profile to Zirkzee, and someone closer to Olivier Giroud – which Morata is.

Since then, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in regular contact with the Spanish striker, throughout the Euro 2024 tournament, and eventually, the Atletico Madrid striker said yes, and after the conclusion of the tournament, his decision was ready to be made after being wooed by the Rossoneri project and the Swede.

Late last night, it was reported by several sources that a deal was complete, and Milan News have published the figures behind the deal.

Morata, who will arrive in Madrid for a medical on Wednesday before going on holiday, will earn €5 million per year during a four-year contract, with the option of serving a fifth season. Due to his release clause, the Diavolo will pay a €13m fee to bring him to the club.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised next year at this time the club’s management will be desperate to get rid of Morata but they won’t be able to because of his age and the very high salary we offered him. I hope I’m wrong. I don’t see Morata as a striker capable of scoring more than 12-15 goals/season. That’s the maximum in my opinion and that in the first season, maximum the second. After which we will be desperate to get rid of him and we won’t be able to. I see the signing of Morata as bad business and reflects the lack of courage and vision of the managers of this club.

      1. No. But some transfers are good, some not. In this case I’m pessimistic. I don’t see anything in Morata striker career to give me the feeling he will be very prolific in our team. The fact that he scored 21 goals for Atletico last season means nothing. We all know how weak La Liga defenses are. And in addition last season in which he scored 21 goals may be the best of his career and the last at the same time at this level, the swan song of his career in terms of efficiency. It’s a unnecessary gamble, an expensive one. At least if he was a young player you had hope that he could improve
. Look what happened with Origi and how much a failed transfer like his is costing us…

    1. Enzo, you would make the same comment if we signed Messi. Just enjoy the show and please spare us your negativity.

The guy is perfect choice considering his price is less then commission of Zirkzee’s agen. Add on top the class of Moratta and experience he brings with him vs Zirkzee, that had one good season, add on top of that the mentorship he can provide to our top talent we have on the bench that can develope possibly to the best striker in the world bnut needs someone to guide him

This is the best possible signing.

Now let us move on to other areas where we need strengthening, and leave that to experts please

      1. This is a place where we can all express our personal opinions. Some are positive, others are negative, depending on the perspective and the way everyone sees a certain situation. Time will show who was right. Stop being so sensitive. If I or anyone else as Milan fans give our opinion here it does not mean that Milan will not make the transfer that you want. Relax

    2. Oh keep the negativity coming…

Morata is still 31. Giroud can do it at 38, same with Zlatan. Even Suarez can still play at 36 – no reason Morata can’t do the same at 33-34 (after 3 season with us). His playstyle is not overly dependant on speed or power, he is not injury prone – all the right attribute for an everlasting career.

If anything, we can always sell him to Arab if we deemed him useless after 2 season (which I doubt)

      1. And he already has experience playing in the Serie A. And he works well with minimal space, which is a given with how defenders operate in the Serie A.

He knows the league. It was a no brainer move. And great low cost one too.

        1. Oh he knows Serie A alright, he has 4 seasons under his belt.
4 seasons where he played 130 league games and scored 35 goals – average of less than 9 per season

      2. But but but… In video games speed and age is everything. Morata is ooooold and that automatically means he’s “slow” and “injury prone”.

Video gamers know best, right? 🙂

    3. I’m sure Morata will do at least 15+5. Giroud doesnt score more then 15 goals per season either but was extremely useful in other ways (on and off the pitch). Same will go for Morata. Also people always look at his stats in Juventus and keep forgetting he mostly played on the wings there which isnt his position.

Having a striker that scores 15 goals but also help alot defensively, work hard for the team, and make the wingers better is perfect for Milan. Its Leao and Pulisic who need to start doing 15+10 regularly for Milan to challange seriously for the scudetto. And even more so the defense that need to get their shit together.

    4. He scored 21 for Atletico and will easily score as much as Giroud did if not more. Wait and see. His style suits our team much like Giroud did.

Also, he has experience already in the Serie A so it isn’t an unknown.

    5. Yeah and that shouldn’t be a surprise anymore, after one summer and a half we know how this management works. I guess we have to decrease our expectations for that Milan, like many fans here. What a rollercoaster, from the best team in the world less than 20 years ago, to the banter era, to a Scudetto and UCL semifinals and now this hunt for 4th place. This management is waiting and monitoring the future, don’t forget that Zlatan is chasing for the third star haha

    1. I just don’t know why I don’t fully support the zirkzee transfer in the first place just cos he’s good for one season we should go for him …. That’s really funny how transfers turns out to be these days

  2. Finally, some concrete reports from this website and not mere speculation upon hopes upon wishes.

But, we need more than just Morata to make a good team everyone knows that.

  3. morata bloody hell this management is useless and clueless all at the same time. Close the gap to inter??? They just widened it and let Juve in too, great job again by the Americans 😂😂😂😂

  4. I like Morata since he played for Juve. He is a kind of player who relishes in big match, same as Giroud. He is similar type to Giroud but better in terms of the ability to play both 4231 and 433. Giroud can not play in 433 formation. He will provide space and assist for players around him.

    1. Agree he’s a perfect replacement for Giroud.

I’ve no idea where people get the idea that a CF can play in 4231 and not in 433, especially Giroud who won a World Cup playing in 433!

  5. The hypocrisy from management and some fans is incredible.
When Dybala (an actual world class player) was available at 28yo for free all we heard was – he doesn’t fit the project, we want to invest in young talent and his wages are too high.

Now we bring in a soon to be 32 yo on similar wages who has always been bang average. I guess it’s whatever suits the narrative at the time

      1. 2 summers ago, when we signed CDK.

The new ownership let M&M deals expire and wasted a lot of time before laying out their desires.
The “takeover” conveniently was completed literally a day or 2 after the transfer window shut. They were certainly calling the shots throughout the summer.

Why would the sellers opt to pay 35m for CDK instead of a free Dybala?

          1. what about all the interviews with Paolo who was unhappy he had not heard anything from new owners until after his contract expired?
Then they renewed m&M and let them do business.
Remeber the cheesy pic of cardinal shaking hands with Maldini?

            short memory due

  6. ‘knowing that they had an extensive list of targets waiting in the wings.’

Well, they got Morata exactly because there’s no other choice on the market that’ll fit the bill. All in all, I believe he’ll do just well here. Just being an ex Chelsea will boost his luck.

  8. I don’t understand the hate? Giroud came to Milan at 35 and stayed for a long time. He came from teams where he was never a starter and would come in the last few minutes and then came to Milan, became a starter and we all fell in love. So why can’t Morata do that at 31 coming off his most prolific season and always being a starter.

He will be great for milan in freeing up space and in his finishing too. He has winners blood in him as everywhere he plays they win. I welcome Morata and hope for his success!

  9. Signing the captain of the european champions aint a bad move instead of signing zirkzee whos had an alright season and sat on the bench for his international team.
Looking forward to this new season. New medical team and gk coach and fresh ideas rather than the same stale tactics. Players will be up for it. More alert/interested. Also with giroud gone it’ll be better upfront. Not expecting miracles from morata but im sure he’ll have more pace than giroud.
