MN: Milan need a striker but Morata, Scamacca and Openda are unlikely to arrive

By Oliver Fisher -

The majority of the speculation surrounding potential signings for AC Milan concerns the midfield and the wings, but a centre-forward could arguably be the most important purchase.

MilanNews write how Olivier Giroud was forced to work overtime last season and even still the Frenchman was decisive for the Rossoneri, with an overall haul of 18 goals and 7 assists.

However, he will turn 37 on 30 September and for this reason the management have the duty to support him with a team-mate of the highest level so that he can manage his work rate more carefully.

Alvaro Morata has been linked but the source claim that he does not convince the Milan management that much given that he is 30 years of age, has never been a prolific scorer and would cost €20m.

The other name is that of Gianluca Scamacca, but West Ham will not let him go via a loan formula. There is also Lois Openda, for whom RC Lens have set too high an asking price for the moment.

It feels as though the striker that will arrive is not yet known, but the certain fact is that the Diavolo need a top striker who can make a difference both in Italy and in Europe.

  1. It’s almost like Maldini and Massara had considered all this and that’s why they’d ended up at Arnautovic as a potential short-term solution for next season…

I certainly don’t think that pair was perfect, but the targets we’ve ended up at don’t feel very different to the ones they had so far.

  2. Why would Milan want to go for morata.if Milan can’t go for openda Why dont they try to sign Balogun at least he has the same amount of goals with openda last season.I think Balogun would be good in Milan because he is fast and has the ability to score,he proved it in france and also in USA

  3. I hope Retegui come to AC Milan. Because he is italiano,so Milan can be him to slot italian player. In this team just have Sportiello,Mirante,Calabria,Gabbia,Pobega, and Colombo, just six player. Regulating UEFA for UCL, each team must have 8 player.

    1. So Retegui wouldn’t actually count towards that – it’s not technically Italian players, it’s:

      – 4 who have been at the club for 4 years before they were 21
      – 4 who have been in Italy for 4 years before they were 21

(I’m not sure if the 4 years and the 21 are the correct numbers, but that’s the basis of the rule anyway)

      1. It is not 4 years but 3 seasons. The age refers to eligibility as U21, not exact age. So it is 3 seasons while they are still U21.

    2. Italian, he qualifies as such since he has an Italian national. He woukd not take up a non euro slot.

What he does not qualify as, is as a homegrown player, since he did not play at least 3 years in Italy prior to reaching his 21st birthday

    1. Agreed. However, based on many of the names in play (Morata, van der Beek, Traore especially) it seems like Mirabelli has been rehired.

  4. Get Icardi, he is good.
Also Adama Traore is free player get him on the right wing, he would be unstopable

It appears we have some good options now on the middle of the park

  5. Icardi please, because Icardi and Milanisti have same big goal isn’t? To destroy Inter next season until pieces lol

  6. Frattesi or Scamacca need to come to complete 8 Italians (4 of them from Milan youth sector) in the team to meet UCL requirement.
