MN: Mutiny and an unrelenting economic stance – the reasons Milan’s move for Faivre failed

A reconstruction of the events leading up to the collapse of the Romain Faivre operation has been provided, and it makes for interesting reading.

The negotiation between Milan and Brest for the transfer of Faivre has failed as per MilanNews. After days of back and forth in which the Rossoneri tried to reach a meeting point with the French club, it is now completely off and there seems to be no chance he will arrive.

There are two key reasons for this. The first is linked to the very risky move by the player not to show up for the meeting on Friday afternoon to leave for Strasbourg – a decision that has infuriated the leadership of the Ligue 1 side, but also the coach and his team-mates.

Faivre was convinced that it was the right course of action to force through a dream move to Milan, but in reality he only complicated things as the Rossoneri management also understood that the situation became tense.

The second reason is economic. Brest initially asked for €18m but dropped to €15m and no further, while Milan made a first offer of €10m then increased to €12m plus €3m in bonuses – which was not enough.

Favire will now be sanctioned by Brest for his decision not to show up for their last game, and he will remain to play in Ligue 1 unless something dramatically changes in the next 24 hours.
