MN: Next two weeks crucial for Giroud after torrid time with Covid and back pain

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud has not been at his best condition since the start of the season, and the international break will be crucial in restoring full fitness.

MilanNews recalls how Giroud scored three goals in the friendly matches against Nice and Panathinaikos and two goals in the first home match of the season against Cagliari in Serie A, showing that he was ready to take his new adventure by storm.

However, it was announced on 2 September that the Frenchman had tested positive for Covid and he was forced into isolation until 10 September. It wasn’t a long time out, but losing so many days of training is not good for rhythm.

Things then got worse when back pain flared up, and that has been tormenting him for a few weeks now. After missing the matches against Juventus and Venezia, the problem seemed to be behind him as he played against Spezia and Atletico Madrid, but it has come back and he missed the Atalanta game as a result.

The hope at Milanello is to have both Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back after the brea as  these two weeks will be fundamental for recovering fitness and form.
