MN: Only two options are on the table regarding De Ketelaere’s future – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

Even though there is one game left in the season Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working ahead of time in view of the summer window, with Charles De Ketelaere’s future to be evaluated.

MilanNews writes that the playmaker role should undergo changes this summer given that Daichi Kamada is almost certain to arrive on a free transfer and could undergo a medical next week.

There has been a lot of speculation about whether De Ketelaere will still be in the squad for next season. The source states that at the moment the hypothesis of a loan spell in 2023-24 has been rejected.

The idea is to retain the player and evaluate him after another preseason at the club, where he will be able to carry out adequate athletic preparation from the first day of training camp as opposed to last summer when he joined late.

He will also have less media exposure than the summer in which he landed in Milan, having joined for over €30m as the big signing of a club that had just won the Scudetto.

The plan is for him to remain therefore, but if an offer close to the €35m invested to sign him from Club Brugge came in, Milan would evaluate it.

  1. I honestly don’t know what to think of the boy. You may tell yourself that Tonali and Leao were both well below what they show today during their first season at Milan but they were both light years away from being as pathetic as CDK. Whatever will decide Maldini/Massara, it’s gonna be a tough choice (inasmuch as €35 mio are at stake plus a huge amount of credibility for this duo)

  2. He’s going to have to decide what the best way is to get mentally back on path. Footballer aside, he seemed to have some depressive symptoms last year and whatever he needs to get his happiness back is more important. I fear if he started a new season badly in Milan, it’s going to get worse but if he thinks he’s up to that then I hope he can prove me wrong!

    1. R, sharp comment. From what I’ve seen, CDK has the skills. The problem is psychological. He seems like a bit of a quiet/withdrawn person and may not have the mentality to be a top player. This will affect him wherever he goes. Perhaps a next level move by the club could be to hire a sports psychologist for him.

    2. The past article said it all. He’s being way too pampered at Brugge. That’s his comfort zone. 180 degrees treatment in Milan, far from his comfort zone. Most of the times, what differs talented footballers and successful footballers, is the mentality. It’ll all depend on him.

  3. I think he deserves another shot but in the end stay or go it all comes down to the coach. Will he play him, can he nurture his talent and bring out the best of him?

  4. His coach when junior said it too: CDK are shy boy, introvert type and dont get too many friend . Moving out to other country far from his parent house must be affected his mentalitym .He need more self confident and more social like adili did . Hiring sport pschological maybe good idea

  5. He didn’t even have a preseason with Milan, he came in the last days of mercato and was expected to deliver. He should stay and have full preparation with the team. And since we are in dire need of a bomber, maybe Pioli should move him up front. He already had good showing in Belgium playing in attack.

  6. “The idea is to retain the player and evaluate him after another preseason at the club, where he will be able to carry out adequate athletic preparation from the first day of training camp as opposed to last summer when he joined late.”

If we are going to use that logic then shouldn’t we keep Origi as well?
I mean if we are honest Origi also missed all of the summer because he was signed injured.
If we are giving CDK another chance then we should do the same with Origi, who could probably benefit from a whole pre-season with the team as well.

    1. BTW same goes for Dest, Vranckx and Thiaw who were signed on August 30 or 31 with the season already in full swing, since because of the WC it started early on August 13th

  7. He can be an introvert and still opens up to the people around him and make friends.

People often times mistake introvertness for depression. Not all introverts are depressed lol, that would not be healthy. And not all extroverts are safe from depression. Keanu Reeves is an introvert and he still has lots of connections in Hollywood, a member of a bike club etc.

Kid has depression and he will have to work to get out of it. The first thing to do is to learn the new language quick.

  8. When I read these articles about CDK and the stubbornness involved, I hear ‘vvviaaaaaa lllaass vegaass’ in my mind.

    Just pure gambling.
