MN: Pioli calls upon Tatarusanu amid decisive stretch for second season in a row

By Oliver Fisher -

There is some anxiety surrounding the goalkeeper situation at AC Milan once again as Mike Maignan has sustained an injury to his calf.

As MilanNews reports, Maignan sustained a medial twin muscle injury in his left calf meaning the French goalkeeper left the national team’s retreat to return to Milanello and begin the recovery therapy.

That means Ciprian Tatarusanu will be called upon again as he was last season, and while losing Maignan for a month for a second consecutive season is not ideal, the staff are not worried.

Tatarusanu replaced the Frenchman in nine games last season, and he did so commendably. He was decisive in the derby by saving the penalty from Lautaro Martinez, but he was also a protagonist against Torino and Roma and also in the Champions League, where he got a clean sheet at the Wanda Metropolitano in the win against Atletico Madrid.

The Romanian will be in net for at least the next least five or six games, including the Chelsea-Juventus-Chelsea triple header which is crucial in the tapestry of the season. Maignan is targeting either the Hellas Verona game or the Monza one, but for now they are only hypotheses.
