MN: Confidence in Pioli has never wavered – he is ‘at the centre of the project’

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management currently have no plans to dismiss Stefano Pioli as head coach but if a string of negative results follows, those plans could change.

Antonio Vitiello writes in his latest MilanNews column that there is a ‘split’ among fans. There are those who are willing to grant other opportunities to Pioli even after the 5-1 derby defeat, and those who would like his immediate dismissal.

What filters from the club itself is that the Milan management have never questioned the coach and will continue to support him, especially with such an important game on the schedule tonight against Newcastle.

However, it’s clear that results in football are everything so this position could change if things go more wrong. To date there are no hints of possible upheavals: both the owners and the management have always supported Pioli by making strong decisions and putting him ‘at the centre of the project’.

  1. Idk man. I heard he is a very bad coach and that since he took over Milan they have been battling for survival in serie a. They just barely managed to be safe last season after juve lost 10 points and went to serie b on the 18 place.

    1. Lol as much as I hate the outcome of the derbies, I still gotta respect that he’s one of the best coaches we’ve ever had in the history of Milan. And he’s doing it with the worst squad compared to all the other winning eras

  2. As I said it several times before, this season is a do or die kind of season for him. He’s been with us long enough (4 years or so), and this season he’s backed by the management profoundly (in terms of the market activities, etc). Without figures like Maldini and Ibra, we can see the ‘real’ Pioli this season.

    1. Yep agreed and I did say he’s under huge pressure this season. He can’t say he didn’t get the players he wanted this time around. The first 8-10 fixtures is the make.or break for him. If he can steady the ship ..by himself…. he’ll be fine. Otherwise. …

  3. Let hope we will do well with him, we love our team more than him, he better do well or else he will be kick out and let hope to see great pobega and chukumessi❤🖤

  4. I strongly disagree this season is do or die for Pioli. Of course if the results will be a complete disaster it may change but if we finish in top 4 it will be totally acceptable because yes he got what he wanted but clearly time is needed building almost entirely new team.

  5. Being calm headed in regard of a sacking is in the greater interest of the club. We are all very angry about the inter match but sacking him just to satisfy people is not the right way to go either, Imagine setting up a team for pioli and then sacking him after 4-5 matches and bringing in a new coach it would completely set back the preparations of the summer and potentially a new rewamp of the squad in the making just to potentially further set u s back.
If we have another huge loss it might be a dfifferent matter but i dont see him getting sacked on the basis of a few bad results because people are panicking which is the last thing we should do.
When that is said im a bit nervous as well after saturdays match but this was always a match that could go either way so it wouldnt be a huge surprise if we lose either but we need a reaction from the team before this turns into an actual crisis,
Anyways who would be the alternative ? conte ? hell no. sarri ? long term project with aging coach, i like him but i dont think so. de zerbi ? i would love to see him coach milan but rather unlikely to happen. A foreign coach ? no guarantees and would need some tranbsition time to adjust to another culture so that wouldnt make much sense either as it could spoil the entire season. Ibra ? has no license and no real experience as such other than being a motivator,
Like it or not pioli is propably the best option for now,,

    1. For an what if scenario id go with zidan as #1 pick. being an x merda he knows how serie a works and he did a good job at real.
      Its very unlikely tho

      1. He could but i doubt he would have any interest in joining ac milan considering his past at juventus. Then there would be his salary and the requests for available transfer kit.
Propably even more unlikely than de zerbi as i see it.

        1. true. he even turned down p$$$g this summer. probs waiting for real or juve or fra national team..

#2 wish would be villas boas.. has tons of exp for his age and has won stuff before. He is racing now tho 😀

          1. his recent years has been a bit underwhelming but not completely dismissing the idea either if pioli was sacked but propably would demand a great deal in salary and as things satnds pioli propably offers more guarantees than the portuguese, his age is a big + though.

    2. Agreed totally Martin. I’m still angry at the last derby result but I wouldn’t want him to be fired. That ls simply illogical. All coaches have flaws including Pep. Patience has always been the virtue of our club’s winning cycles. Plus he’s pretty much been one of the best coaches we’ve ever had. People have forgotten Brocchi, Giampaolo, Inzaghi, Terim, Montella.

      1. Absolutely one of the great strengths of our recent years has been the continuity of having the same coach regardless if he isnt perfect in all of his choices. I agree his winning stats is amongst the best since i became an ac milan fan for over 30 years ago and that says a lot as winning is the most important thing even if we also want to do it in a beautiful way then the first thing is the most important thing to do, unfortunately this past weekends loss was a massive kick in the stomach and people will react with no calmness or logic in mind.

  6. Don’t panic fans ..
We will win against Newcastle tonight ..
I don’t understand the criticism against pioli .
I think he is a very good manager with a new team .
We have had one bad result against inter …
Yes I think we set the team up wrongly for that game .
All managers go through tough times as do all teams .
Do you think that inter will not lose games ,of course they will …Napoli have already got beaten once already ,does it mean they are out of the title race ,of course not ,,and we are not either …We will challenge make no mistake about that ..
So it’s a confident win for us tonight .
Good news Olivier Giroud will score yet again .

    1. I don’t think u know what u are saying pioli is a mediocre his selections for each match are so bad even after we got new players he kept fielding his lovers, we don’t have any defensive players in that midfield and yet he’s planning to use Pobega instead of Musa still using krunic do u even know what new castle will field? Tonali will be one of their defensive midfielders does pioli think champions league is a match whr u field d players u love? When d ones that can do it are there pls pioli need to be sacked immediately if not we won’t get to round of 16 believe me.

      1. Tonali is not a defensive mid in Newcastle’s setup. He plays like a mezzala. They’ve moved to a 433 unlike.ladt year when they had a 442

  7. Even bottom of the league Empoli know when a result is too bad and have just fired their coach Zanetti. You can’t spend the most money in your entire league and lose 5-1 to your rivals, when you’ve been coach for 3years and have some old players in the team. Does pioli need 30 years to implement plans? He has no playing system, that has always been the problem. Carlos Augusto, Frattessi Thuram all fit in seamlessly at inter. Jeremy doku and kovacic at city.. Bellingham etc . That’s because there’s already working systems in those teams. We sign chukwueze and all of a sudden he looks like a fish out of water. Gentlemen Pioli isn’t the way forward
