AC Milan are currently in the middle of a very demanding period that will see them play seven games in 22 days, meaning Stefano Pioli is looking at some rotation options.
Ahead of Saturday night’s match against Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara, MilanNews reports that Pioli is considering the option of resting Fikayo Tomori. Alessio Romagnoli would stand in for the Englishman as happened Tuesday night at the Estadio Dragao against Porto where Tomori gave some small signs of fatigue, despite being one of the better players on the night.
There is also a selection dilemma in midfield as it must be decided whether Sandro Tonali or Ismael Bennacer will make room for Franck Kessie who is back after being suspended on Tuesday night.
In attack, Rafael Leao will start on the left while Rade Krunic and Alexis Saelemaekers could have their spot threatened by Daniel Maldini and Samu Castillejo as the playmaker and right winger respectively.
There is a possible battle between Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the centre-forward role as both need to play and put more minutes in their legs, with the Frenchman being ahead at the moment.

Milan should get Hauge back. I think he has a lot of talent and he would have helped a lot during this rough times which Milan is experiencing it. He was a real prospect for the team indeed and the team is letting him go. Also Pellegri should play more. I think Milan should start forgetting about Kessie if he doesn’t want to accept any deal. Tonali and Bennacer are the future of Milan midfield. But they shouldn’t have another drama as last season with Donnarumma and Calhanoglu. I think Hauge would have been crucial now, don’t you agree?

Emmanuel, do you know what a mezzala (one L) is? it is the position between central midfield and the wing. It’s the compound of two Italian words for half and wing. So a “half-winger”. Therefore the two outside midfielders in the middle 3 of a 4-3-3 are mezzale, for example. Tonali is not a mezzala. Nor does a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 employe mezzale. Hence why Krunic is either on the bench or out of position, because he is a mezzala. Tonali is a playmaking defensive midfielder. If anything, Pioli should try a reverse-Pirlo and see if he can play in the hole behind Ibra/Giroud.
