MN: Pioli has the desire to play Ibrahimovic and Giroud together but patience is needed

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli is hoping to finally have strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud available for a long period of time after both suffered early season injury problems.

MilanNews recalls how Pioli played them together during the 3-2 comeback against Hellas Verona and they caused enough panic inside the box to force an own-goal. As soon as that arrived, the Milan boss removed the Frenchman. To see them together from the start will require some more patience given both are not quite at 100% yet, especially the Swede.

Pioli himself explained the situation on Ibra and Giroud at the beginning of September, stating “Ibrahimovic and Giroud are two great players, with different characteristics. Olivier gives us a point of reference for depth and presence in the area, Zlatan is now an attacking playmaker, he likes to touch more balls and not stay still inside the area. I think that when they are both at 100%, I hope soon, we can try to make them play together.”

The desire to play them together in the right situations is there, but the duo have been tormented by various physical problems at the start of the season so time is needed.

  1. They could be good as subs against tired opponents but not as starters. Let young boys prepare space for them and then let veterans in to finish the clash.
