MN: Pioli grants Milan squad a day of rest after Lecce victory

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has decided to give the squad the day off today following the win over Lecce yesterday at San Siro, with training to resume tomorrow.

Milan took care of business on their home patch yesterday with Christian Pulisic opening the scoring early on after a lovely shot from the edge of the box, then Olivier Giroud nudged in the second goal 15 minutes later.

A red card for Lecce before the interval effectively put an end to the contest, then Yacine Adli provided a gorgeous through ball for Rafael Leao to make it 3-0, though there was some controversy about that goal given Lecce had a man down.

According to what is being reported by MilanNews, Sunday will be a day of rest for the Milan squad with Pioli giving them the day off after the seventh consecutive victory across all competitions.

Training will therefore resume at Milanello tomorrow and thus preparations for the Europa League quarter-final first leg against Roma at San Siro on Thursday night will begin.

Given the amount of crucial games on the agenda – with two matches against Roma plus league games against Inter and Juventus to come – managing the workload of the squad will be critical.

  1. They are flying high and media are not helping with all the hype. Pioli needs to keep their heads below the clouds and feet firmly on the ground. We’re in crucial stages of the season. They’re gelling well but one miss can ruin it for them as they’re still fragile mentally.
