MN: Pioli gets third in Panchina d’Oro awards behind Spalletti and Inzaghi

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has taken third in the Panchina d’Oro (Golden Bench) award, finishing behind Luciano Spalletti and Simone Inzaghi.

As reported by Milan News, this was the 32nd edition of the Panchina d’Oro award and it took place at the Coverciano Technical Centre.

Pioli won the award last time for his work in the 2021/22 season where Milan won the Serie A title. This time, the award is based on the 2022/23 season in which Napoli won the Serie A title.

For that reason, it is not a shock that Luciano Spalletti won the award. He stepped down after the season had ended and Napoli are struggling without him.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi got second despite Inter coming third in Serie A. They still won the Coppa Italia and reached the Champions League final.

Milan only finished fourth last season and that was thanks to Juventus’ points deduction, but reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League will have helped Pioli’s vote share.

61 coaches get to vote in the award, and Spalletti got 42 of those votes. He was the overwhelming winner, as Inzaghi got six votes and Pioli got three.
