MN: Pobega achieves a dream at San Siro as Milan’s plan begins to bear fruit

By Oliver Fisher -

Tommaso Pobega’s first ever AC Milan goal could hardly have come at a better moment as he scored the goal to seal a huge Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb.

MilanNews writes how Pobega’s goal and his integration into the squad in general is the product of Milan’s prudent planning of the last few years. He not only scored his first ever goal for the club, but it came in just his second Champions League appearance, a quick impact that few can boast.

Pobega spoke to Milan TV after the game to describe his emotions: “I think that the first goal at San Siro is never forgotten, moreover if in a competition like this one. I think I will always remember it. It is difficult to put into words.”

Pobega has done an apprenticeship in many ways having gone out on loan to Ternana in Serie C, then to Pordenone in Serie B before having spells with Spezia and Torino in Serie A. He has had to wait for his role in the squad, but has shown he is always ready when called upon and his performances have increased in level game by game.

The first fruits of this long-term project are coming. Pobega is a youth academy product who has scored in the Champions League, joining a list of decorated players like Paolo Maldini and Demetrio Albertini. His celebration with Davide Calabria said it all: a goal made in Milan.

  1. Perhaps it’s also better for Daniel Maldini to get loaned out to a Serie B team first before again to a Serie A team. He got the potential, but TBH his current condition is not so promising. Looking at Spezia’s current formation, I doubt there is a position that he can directly slot into.

    1. I don’t think we need to go over the moon. But he has been really good since preseason. He played very well against Sampdoria and yesterday he acquitted himself very well. If he has a growth like Tonali did, he’ll be amazing next year. I hope he can continue to have games so he can achieve that growth.

  2. Pobega scored but dude still runs like he got stones tied to his legs. I am still no convinced he is good gor the double pivot, time will tell though but he is a hood midfeilder but his legs is not meant for double pivot, against teams with speedsters, I wonder how he gonna cope…congratulations him though

  3. I am happy for Pobega. He has worked hard and endured the challenges of Italy’s lower divisions. I followed him a bit last year in Torino and was impressed with his form there. Way to go Tommaso!
