MN: Pobega enjoying more trust from Pioli after ‘very positive’ Sampdoria display

Tommaso Pobega got yet another start under his belt during AC Milan’s 2-1 victory against Sampdoria at the Marassi last night, and Stefano Pioli was happy with his contribution.

MilanNews recall Pioli’s comments on the performance of Pobega after the game: “I evaluate the performance in a very positive way, it is yet another proof that the players need to grow, play, make mistakes. He was technically clean, he is very good in the insertions and physically he is strong. He made a very positive performance, I am happy. He works very well and gives a lot every day.”

After loan spells in Pordenone, Spezia and Torino, the feeling is that Pobega is gaining increasing confidence from Pioli. He made his Champions League debut against Salzburg in midweek, and then his second start in Serie A for the Rossoneri last night.

His physicality immediately stands out at 1.88m in height and with a broad frame, and that is helping him to gradually insert himself in a complex and well-established tactical environment. With Rade Krunic injured and Aster Vranckx still adapting, Pobega is the first alternative in midfield.

He has totally different characteristics compared to Tonali, Krunic and Bennacer but provides the coach with the physicality that the team lost in the middle of the field with Franck Kessie’s farewell. However, the 23-year-old can become an efficient and useful player who – after Calabria and Gabbia – could become the latest Primavera product to carve out a key role.
