It is less than 24 hours since AC Milan emerged victorious against Spezia in Liguria, but focus has already turned to Tuesday night’s game at San Siro.
MilanNews reports how Milan immediately returned to Milanello after yesterday’s win and trained in the morning to prepare for the crucial Champions League group stage match against Atletico Madrid.
Two days before the game there are already some indications as to the team that head coach Stefano Pioli will put out there, and it includes the persistence of many of the players he considers to be a starter, plus two players returning from injury.
Both Calabria and Kjaer will be available again after their respective injuries, even if the full-back did come off the bench in the 2-0 win over Spezia, while the Dane is in a battle with Romagnoli to partner Fikayo Tomori.
There are a further two dilemmas: whether to pick Kessie or Bennacer in midfield and whether Rebic or Giroud is the right option up front.
Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer (Romagnoli), Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Kessie (Bennacer); Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Rebic (Giroud).

I believe we should go with the strongest & most ready squad to face Atletico
For now, i would choose
Maignan – Calabria – Kjaer – Tomori – Theo – Tonali – Bennacer – Saelemaekers – Brahim – Leao – Rebic
Clearly, Giroud & Kessie isn’t at their best (yet), and we will need Captain for Atalanta Match or to cover Kjaer/Tomori during the game
Gotta be fun match! two attacking minded team meets
Atletico are not attacking minded team. They prefer to play from deep defense. They mostly build a game around ball possession control and make 1-3 attempts max per 90 min. Whilst Liverpool have a strong attacking line and pretty mediocre defense, Atletico manage almost perfect defense and average attacking style even having Suarez and Grizmann.
This game will be totally controlled by our guys but scoring a goal will be a pretty tough challenge. I think the clash is gonna be Theo’s cannonball run day.
I agree, Rebic should definitely play, he’s in great form on that FW position. But I’m afraid, Pioli will line up the ‘classic’ pivot, despite Kessie’s bad form, we will see
Three months ago, Ibra underwent surgery for his injury … Isn’t it time to write him off for games this season? How much does he feel? You can never be completely sure. This seems ridiculous … The one who would save us and make sure we got on in Champions Leuage? And is Giraud the same flop as Manducic? And finally, how long will Maldini (with his father’s goodwill and influence) remain in the A squad ….
Pessimists
Carra
i had hoped and thought ibra would be ready for atletico or atalanta but probably won’t… sad how he gets another injury after playing like 30 mins against lazio after coming back from 3 month injury recovery..
Let’s face it, Ibra is old and got no juice left in him.
We need to look to the future. I would love to have Ibra among the AC Milan technical team in the future, and maybe a coach someday
haha. You okay? :’D
The match will be very intense, I think Kjaer should not play this match. Of course it is better with him but we need to preserve him.
beware of De Paul which knows well to face milan in serie a, and hope kjaer can shutdown the el pistolero, Suarez
No passaran Milan !
I suggest dat Pioli should leave out kjaer for this game.He is just returning from injury, and dis game is gng to be very intense. There shouldn’t be any problem of him starting the atalanta game dis weekend
