MN: Probable Milan XI for PSG clash – Musah to play a deeper role

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli appears to have ironed out the final doubts about his team selection ahead of tomorrow night’s game against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

PSG will visit San Siro for a rematch after the 3-0 in Paris last month, and Milan need a win with only two points on the board after three matches and zero goals scored, meaning qualification hopes hang by a thread.

MilanNews reports that Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze are back after injury and the USA winger will join Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao in the attacking trident.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will also return to the starting line-up after his appearance off the bench against Udinese. Tijjani Reijnders should be the other mezzala, with Yunus Musah at the base of the three.

In defence, given the injuries, the choices are forced: Theo Hernandez returns at left-back with Davide Calabria on the other side, and a centre-back pairing of Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw ahead of Mike Maignan.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Musah, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Rafa Leao.

Bench: Mirante, Nava, Florenzi, Bartesaghi, Krunic, Adli, Pobega, Chukwueze, Okafor, Jovic.

Unavailable: Sportiello, Kalulu, Pellegrino, Caldara, Bennacer, Kjaer, Romero (not UEFA squad listed).

Suspended: None.

Suspended with a booking: Musah.

  1. This is pretty scary. Musah defends well but he does not have a long ball to keep the press honest. Krunic is a worse choice so I guess this is the lesser of two evils. Pretty sure Adli is not on the CL roster.

I cant believe Kessie still hasn’t been replaced.

      1. Adli can pass but can’t dribble, tackle, hold the ball, win it back? You must be thinking of a different Adli. And that “penalty” against Udinese wasn’t his fault either.

  2. 5 pm
I wish Tomori would have knocked Krunic in the training session and let him go for five years injury . Ridiculous Pioli to start Krunic again.

    ………..maignan…………

    Thiaw. ..simic…Tomori……Theo

    ………………….RLC………………..

    Chuks……pulisic…….leao…….

    ………. okafor…….. Giroud…

    1. First of all simic isnt available for cl matches as he hasnt been long enough at the club to be considered as a homegrown player. Secondly with you hoping krunic to get injured for 5 years i guess its ok for me to hope you get driven down in the traffic today and gets hospitalized for the next 5 years as well or what Harry ?

  3. Luka is a good alternative, but unfortunately he is not in the UCL, hopefully after the match against PSG, PIOLI will be fired immediately, because Milan did not qualify for the UCL group phase!!

    1. By those standards juvemtus didnt either as they have been fielding a team of players that they wouldnt have been able to aquirre had they not been cheating with their finances to begin with.

  4. This is the best starting lineup we can put in until Bennacer comes back. Would love that they try this. we just need to hope that Reijnders practices his shots on target and we can have a very solid game vs PSG

  5. This is one of the many issues I had with the summer signings, the lack of a defined role. “RLC, Reijnders, Musah can play anywhere in midfield” but what is their role, what is their best position? We are just filling in gaps depending on the game. “Okafor can play striker, second striker, and left wing” but he hasn’t gotten a run of games in one position. “Pulisic can play on either wing, or behind the striker” luckily his role was defined quickly and he is our best performer. All these new players need a consistent run of games in one positions where they know their responsibilities. Back to the game, if we give a solid performance, PSG are very beatable. Pulisic and Leao will be keen to prove a point after the away leg

  6. They never addressed the important role of no.6 in the summer and now anyone who’s put there is a big big gamble. But hey they spent 60 millions on midfield runners and muscles, 55 millions on two injury prone RW’s.

  7. I really hope we win but I’m not confident because, well, it’s PSG. They’ve got the best player on the planet for god’s sake.

The media having built up so much excitement with the transfers this summer are now setting completely unrealistic expectations for the squad (unrealistic in a large part because of the huge overhaul and lack of focused signings).

If we win or even draw that will be a huge result. If we lose then how can we expect anything more?

The team actually should play without pressure knowing they’re the underdogs.

    1. I have been seeing you in the comments since summer. Why have a cuckold behavior? Before the game, you always try consolidate everyone in case if team is to lose. Don’t you have some dignity? If we lose, how we can expect anything? They have the best players on the planet? Those best players got r*ped by Oldcastle for 4:1 lol.

      1. I’ve no idea what you’re talking about but if you’re struggling to follow a very simple narrative from the concerns I raised in the summer to the expectations I have now I can’t help you.
