MN: Probable Milan XI vs. Parma – Okafor for Morata, Musah to start

AC Milan’s second game of the 2024/25 Serie A season takes them south to Parma where they will face the newly-promote side at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.

According to Milan News, the injured Alvaro Morata is going to be replaced by Noah Okafor rather than Luka Jovic.

The Swiss forward has moved ahead of the Serbian in the striker hierarchy and with Morata out until the international break. Okafor starting was confirmed by Paulo Fonseca himself in the pre-match press conference.

There are more decisions to be made elsewhere on the pitch and the lineup could prove very hard to predict on the day.

In the defence, the expectation is that Theo Hernandez will come back into the team and push Alexis Saelemaekers to the bench, whilst Strahinja Pavlovic should get to start alongside Fikayo Tomori which means Malick Thiaw has lost his place.

In the midfield, there is a belief that Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders will start together and Ismael Bennacer will be on the bench.

That means that Ruben Loftus-Cheek would play in the No.10 role, Christian Pulisic would play on the right wing and Samuel Chukwueze would have to take a place on the bench. Rafael Leao will start on the left.

Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Pavlovic, Hernandez; Reijnders, Musah; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao, Okafor.

    What a coincidence that he is starting being the game is on National American television (CBS) for the first time. Wow

    I guess we are making PR decisions instead of Sporting decisions now??? Disgusting

    And pretty telling how bad management FAILED with Jovic as our primary back up to Morata. Already replaced by a Winger in Okafor LOLOLOLO.

    But I guess this is what we should expect from owners who always go the cheap route and are more interested in clicks than results.

    1. Rather than a conspiracy, wouldn’t it be more logical to conclude that Chukuweze’s disappointing performance and Bennacer’s lack of form // the defensive frailty of the last game = RLC is moved higher up the pitch and Musah starts ahead of Bennacer / Adli?

      Reijnders and Musah compliment one another well in a double pivot.

    2. This. I like Musah but his end product and defensive positioning is not good. I’d rather have Bennacer there unless there is a buyer ready for him hence why he’s on the bench. Or it’s because it’s on national tv in US. This is not beneficial for our struggling defense.

      Also, RLC at 10 again, smh…

      Could it be that Chuku was awful last game, that Musah looked really good when he came in and assisted on the game tying goal? And the fact that they are trying to sell Bennacer?? Nope, It’s just those darn cheap Americans again. How ridiculous.

      And how exactly are they cheap? DO you know how much they spent basically without selling anyone? Why don’t you look it up before you look even more foolish. While still having to deal with the leftover trash from the previous management (Origi, Ballo-Toure, etc) that we can’t even give away for free.

      3. Ya cheap kid. We spent 13M on the most important position on the pitch – #9. Jovic was FREE because nobody wanted him. We signed Morata because he cost 13M. That was the only reason. Now he’s hurt and we are already bypassing his backup in order start a LW? No big club does that buddy.

        We have a NET spend of 46M thus far – and after we sell Benny that will be much less. That will be closer to the 35M NET yearly transfer spend we have budgeted. So ya we are CHEAP kid.

        And it sure looks pretty easy to sell players you signed that nobody wants cause Georgie Boy is having so much success at it eh?? He either loans players or gives them away for free lol. Not so easy is it???

        So why don’t YOU look it up before YOU look more FOOLISH donkey

    6. Musah has tons of potential. Okafor and Jovic have done great as subs. In what way have they failed? He arrived for free. Follow another team. Your negativity and lack of basic football IQ is embarrassing

  3. Sorry Chuk is back to the confused player of last year but glad Puli will be at RW if this is true.

    While I don’t prefer RLC as a 10, I wonder if recasting him as a 9 is on the cards? Size, nose for goal and the mind of a mid.

    Glad Ok4 is getting the start. I’m not sure he will be any better than Jovic as a lone ST. I find it suspicious he got no minutes for Switzerland this summer. I hope I am wrong though.

    If I’d like to see Puli get a rest b/t 60/70 with Salad coming in. I want to see if he can provide like-4-like

    Milan 3-1 Pavlovic makes a clear difference in the defense.

    1. I feel like we have seen a fair sample size of RLC as a10 last season to know that he isn’t a very good 10… last pass/shot always lacking.

      1. I agree, but giving up 15 goals, 10 assists and the defensive hustle on the right seems too expensive an experiment.

        Put another way, Chuk is more below average at RW than RLC is at ACM.

        While I really like Salad, I don’t think he can carry the RW either. So, that’s where I come to the conclusion.

        I’d like to see Reinjders at the 10 for a couple of games once Foffy is up to speed.

    2. Thank God Milan were smart enough not to bring in Conte. I don’t know why anyone would hire this guy. He starts complaining the second he walks in the door about not having enough talent as if he doesn’t know what team he agreed to coach. Then he has a top 3 striker in the world in Oshimen and he is forcing him out so he can bring in Lukaku. He will rage quit or they will fire him within a year.

  5. Musah is like a lost chicken on the field ,he should be sold first of all midfielders but they obviously can’t admit that they made a mistake signing him,their ego will cost us

    3. Musah needs a fixed position. He actually is an excellent defensive mid when given definitive coaching instructions.
      He never got that last year from Pioli

  6. Milan should use 433 instead of 4231. Use RLC and Reijnders as Mezzala. So no confusion in who will play as AMC. RLC, Reijnder and Musah are best as mezzala with differenct characteristic. Even Fofana is best as mezzala with defensive minded more. So we have an abundance of mezzala/box to box midfielders with different characteristic. It is a luxury option to face any type of team. Bennacer is best as regista, he is a playmaker and good in positioning and tackling. Adli can be his deputy. He can learn to be the next Pirlo. These midfielders remind me to the era of Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf, and Ambrosini who have also different characteristics.

    Focus Pulisic as RW with Chuk as deputy. They have different characteristic too. Okafor as deputy for CF and LW. Jovic as super sub for CF. They are mobile strikers and so is Morata. Saele plays as back up for many positions: R/LW and R/LB.

    Milan have a complete squad this season!

    2. Tonali and kessie are also box to box midfielders…that is the type of player who plays in the double pivot. Midfielders have to be good at everything in today’s game like fullbacks…even the 10 has to apply pressure. Whether you call it a 433 or a 4231…you need to play defense as a team. The roles given are the same. Pressure with 4 at the top and force quick decisions and have midfielders and fullbacks in position to attack those 50/50 balls…Bennacar did not appear to move very well last game giving up easy passes.

    You know Chuk still inconsistent. So, bring back Puli on right wing, is very right.

    Reijnders with Musah, ok. Pavlovic with Tomori, ok.

    I think Ibra must deal with Udinese for Lamardzic, he is the no. 10 too.

    And please don’t let Thiauw come in as subs. Better Gabbia than Thiauw. Because I see that Thiauw from last season, has been very decrease on performance

  11. BB seriously? You say it’s a mistake buying Musah but you happy to have Chukueze in Milan, Chuck has no business to even be on our bench, he’s talentless and a one way player, nothing more or less, Saelemaekers is better thann Chukueze
