MN: Proposals arriving for De Ketelaere – his sale could fund further additions

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are working on the sales of the players who are no longer deemed a part of the plans moving forward, according to a report.

Antonio Vitiello writes in his column for MilanNews that that there are four known players who are expected to depart before the end of next month in Ante Rebic, Divock Origi, Fode Ballo-Tourè and Junior Messias.

All are deemed not part of Stefano Pioli’s project and can leave under the right conditions, but the journalist adds that proposals are arriving for Charles De Ketelaere too, with ‘some more convincing than the other’.

PSV Eindhoven have entered the race after losing Xavi Simons to PSG, but so far it is only vague interest and their idea is a loan deal which is obviously not what Milan would prefer.

Aston Villa remain in the running too, while with the possible departure of the Belgian before the window shuts, Milan could also complete other operations.

      1. His stats thoughout his career says otherwise

        Played as…
        Centre-Forward 49 16 12
        Attacking Midfield 44 1 4
        Central Midfield 13 4 2
        Right Winger 12 1 –
        Left Winger 11 1 –
        Second Striker 8 3 1
        Left Midfield 7 1 –
        Right Midfield 2 – 2

          1. He deffently didnt have a great first season but he wasnt really fielded much as a forward either so whether he could be a success there for us is up in the air but fact is that its the position he has played the most in his career.

          2. We signed him based on his performances there. He didn’t have a training camp and we started a player on loan instead of him. Understandable he couldn’t find his grove or establish any rhythm. He is a player that was the best player in his squad, in a different league, team, new tactics and country. He still lived at home in Belgium. It was a big transition with no period to transition or adapt. He can do better than what we saw from him and giving up before he gets a solid chance would be the epitome of stupidity.

        1. If you looked at the formations used in Brugge youd see it was 352 and CDK played in tandem with Noa Lang.. And in 433 he played a false 9 not a clasic 9 that Milan uses. So he cant play a 9 at Milan

          1. Well as i said further down if pioli cant use him and if a sale could pave way for example chukwenze i wouldnt oppose it either.

      2. We’ve given him plenty of solid chances – 40 of them – and he did Jack. Then the Belgium national team gave him a chance at U21 and he did Jack. Leao and Tonali showed promise in their first seasons. CDK got worse as it went on.

        1. Well personally id keep him for one more season but on the other hand if pioli cant use him and selling him means that we will get chukowenze then i wouldnt completely oppose a sale either but in my view the kid has talent and is bound to become a success but whether that is with milan might be a different question. I think he started out promising with us and could easily have had 5-6 assists after his first ten matches had his team mates not missed sitters but clearly his confidence took a drop and started playing badly, He also ended the season a bit better than in between,
Yeah he did play 40 matches but not 1 single full match so those numbers are a bit skewed,

          1. Yep that’s why I said appearances not matches – but 40 is still a heck of a lot to do basically nothing. To me it’s a no brainer to cash in on him and put the funds toward someone who can hit the ground running while we still can rather than sit and hope.

          2. Well as i said if he is of no use to pioli it would make sense if we could aquirre chukwenze but personally i do like cdk.

        2. He played 1480 minutes, that is 16 full games, 5 games only with 70 minutes or more, that isnt 40 chances. You guys take a quick glance, run your mouths and hsow you really lack depth in your analysis. 15 games in his last season in Belgium he score or assisted was as a forward or winger, not attacking midfielder. He was not used to his proper position. Pioli used him in his weakest position in all but 3 of his appearances.

You guys clearly are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.Make a kid play a bit part role, on a new team, in a new league and in his worst position. It has disaster written all over it. We kept the same formation and played an on loan player instead of 2 of our own players all year. Pioli dropped the ball on that.

          1. Yes you’re the sharpest tool chrisp I agree. And what did the closet genius do in those 3 appearances in his natural position?

    1. He is an unreliable scorer, a striker can have many shortcomings but not an absolute lack of scoring.
He simply cannot be trusted as a striker and needs to be sold asap.

  1. He’s not quick enough as a striker for us and I know that’s the same for giroud but he also seems unaware of space around him, not urgent enough to get in space and we need a striker completely opposite to giroud. His confidence is shot.

  2. I don’t know if he’s too quiet or too timid for Milan or if the fee paid for him is putting pressure on him. I’d like to see him succeed but if a good offer comes in for him I’d be OK to offload him.

    1. I really don’t understand why any team should fear messias. He is arguably the worse player in most of the matches he playes. He needs to leave ASAp

  3. ACM signing pulisic also want to sign new RW & striker already the signal that management or maybe pioli dont need CDK anymore . But of course if not 28m euro offer, they wont accept that . CDK departure to aston villa 28m euro ( still rumout) can make ACM buy samuel chukwu , that make both side winger LW & RW will have high speed winger

  4. I really don’t care what his “best position” was at Brugge. I’ve been watching football a long time and what I saw from CDK does not scream center forward. He does not know how to fight for the ball shoulder to shoulder. He has no aerial game. At least Pippo knew how to be in the right place at right time to put the ball in the net with his a$$. He may end up being a good playet in another position, but CDK is not a center forward and we don’t play with false 9s, nor should we.

As much as they’re denying it, it’s obvious the club has hit the reset button this summer. To me that is a GOOD SIGN. It means they saw our 5th place performance last season and realized it won’t do. 5th place is a failure. We’re only in the CL because of a technicality, because Juventus was stupid and greedy. So maybe CDK just doesn’t fit the project anymore. The project he was brought in for in 2022 is not the same project in 2023. Let the money that comes in for him serve to strengthen THIS project now.

    1. He was playing his first season against defenders in the Italian league that are masters at body positioning and the league is way more centered on strength that the Belgium league.

He had no training camp, it is normal he didn’t pick up how to be efficient against Serie A defenders in his first 12 months away from home.

Everything you said he lacks, requires time to develop, except for speed, that is usually something players have or don’t.

      1. My god these excuses are endless…. And how long are we supposed to wait for him to develop into a striker – seeing as no other position on the pitch is his natural position? Are you open to at least sending him on loan or you want us to rely on a kid who mopes around like a 13 year old on a playground?

      2. You cannot develop a player endlessly otherwise all we would need to do is buy 5th division players. Developing him from bad to less bad won’t be enough.

We just have to accept that it was a wrong decision to buy him and he lacks the required talent/skill.

This is ok, happens all the time. What is dangerous is not accepting the possibility of failure.

    2. yup. He cant play a lone striker.. Even in brugge, as people say he played one. It was SS not ST.
He could play AM but Pioli cant use offensive AM for the life of him 😀

    1. And most importantly: attitude and commitment. Did he even remotely look like he was interested in showing what he can do? Nope. Where was the fighting spirit? Nowhere.

  5. CDK doesn’t want to leave so we probably should get our hopes up. Takes both player and club to sell. Unless Pioli takes the drastic measure of sending him to train with the Primavera, he may just continue to stick around and wait for his chance again…will be interesting to see how this plays out.
