MN: Responsibility and consistency – Leao’s mission to shine under Fonseca begins

Rafael Leao made his first preseason appearance during the game against Barcelona on Tuesday night, and he showed glimpses of exactly what he can bring to AC Milan.

As MilanNews recall, the winger joined the team directly in the United States after a well-deserved vacation following the European Championship, and the signs were positive right from the first training sessions.

The 45 minutes played against Barcelona can only give further hope too. He wore the captain’s armband, something which in itself is non-trivial, and went on a number of menacing runs while also providing the assist for Christian Pulisic’s goal to make it 2-0.

That half confirmed one thing: Leao is still the one who lights up the team with his quality and speed, even if the end product was at time lacking, barring the assist that he got for Pulisic of course.

There is the potential that the new-look attacking trident with the American down the middle and Samuel Chukwueze on the right could greatly benefit the former Lille man, given that it should create space for him to exploit with the threat more spread.

At times Leao tormented the young Barcelona full-back Valle, but now this must translate to competitive action. The Portuguese must take on his responsibilities as the strong and decisive player he has shown himself to be, hoping to enter a ‘new era’ with Paulo Fonseca where he kicks on.
