MN: Milan duo to miss Rapid Wien friendly with exits now imminent

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan squad will soon depart for Austria ahead of this evening’s friendly against Rapid Wien, but a report has revealed that they will be two men down.

The team will take off from Malpensa Airport soon in the direction of Vienna in view of the first summer friendly scheduled for today at 17:30 CEST at the Allianz Stadion against Rapid Wien.

According to what MilanNews are reporting, both Jan-Carlo Simic and Luka Romero will not be on the plane carrying the squad and in both cases it is because they are close to sealing moves away.

Fabrizio Romano reported last night that a move to Anderlecht is imminent for Simic, and the Belgian club will pay €3m while Milan will retain a 20% sell-on clause.

Meanwhile, Romero is set for a return to LaLiga where he spent the second half of last season on loan at Almeria. This time he will join Deportivo Alaves on an initial loan deal, but it includes an option to buy.

In order to prevent injuries and perhaps to get the final few details sorted in each of the respective operations, the centre-back and the winger will remain at home and will play no part in this evening’s game.

  1. If Thiaw leaves for Newcastle then we only have Gabia and Tomori as CB now (Kalulu is back at RB). Very stupid to let Simic go, they could have made him a back up in the first team. This is Kerkez all over again.

    1. Yeah bal f*ck didn’t play them even when CB crisis happened or to rotate Theo earlier for kerkez.

This is one of the main reasons for Fonseca I think .. they wanted a coach who will give youngsters chances and develop them. We have a lot of promising youngsters in our ranks now.

  2. So sad to see luka romero going to loan out again. He and adli have a rare characteristic in the midfield. Should have gain more minute play …

  3. Whatever the Ownership and Management, Milan just doesn’t seem to know what to do with their own prospects they produce themselves.
Such a shame for players like Coubis, Sonic, Zeroli, Bartesaghi and the other RB kid, etc

    1. Zeroli just signed an extension through 2028. Jiminez is also signed through 2028, Coubis through 2027, Camarda through 2027, and Bartesaghi only has 2 years left. His contract will be challenging to come to an agreement on. But the team doesn’t have an incentive to move players to the first team if they aren’t signed for several years. This was the case with Simic even last year. More likely to see Zeroli, Jimenez and Coubis with the first team than Bartesaghi, for example, unless he extends…
