MN: Saelemaekers goes from the exit door to a potential option for Fonseca

Belgian winger Alexis Saelemaekers has turned himself into a genuine squad option for Paulo Fonseca during the summer despite seeming destined for the exit door.

As highlighted by Milan News, Saelemaekers was expected to be out the door by this point of the summer but a series of events means he could have a second life at Milan.

He spent last season on loan at Bologna and the assumption was that they would exercise the option to make the deal permanent.

With the coach changing and money being needed in other areas, Bologna opted not to sign him and suddenly Milan needed to find a new buyer.

Between a lack of concrete interest allowing him to leave and important players being involved in international tournaments, Saelemaekers has been one of the most-used players by Fonseca during pre-season.

It still seems very likely that if a favourable bid comes in for Saelemaekers, Milan will sanction the sale, but it is no longer implausible for him to stay as a rotation option in a season where there will be a lot of games.

With around three weeks of the transfer window to go, his future will not be certain until it has definitely slammed shut.

  1. We see opportunity where others do not 🙂 Bologna did not want to even pay doubledigit figure for Saladmakers. Guess it is destined for him to get another (waste) chance before we sell him for petty cash next summer.

  2. Saelemaekers plus 10m for Chiesa instead of Tammy
Imagine the team having an attacking depth like; Leao, Okafor, Jovic, Morata, Chukwueze, Chiesa, Pulisic

  3. He played a lot of minutes in the year we won the championship. Very good utility player. Should be a part of the squad and will be very useful.

        1. Untrue. Messias was and is a work horse. We always looked better with him playing than with salad. I could go match to match and write down the ppm but I’m nor in the mood and people would just shrug it away and still claim salad is a good player and we’re lucky to have him or some other BS

  4. I don’t see how we register him for the league at the moment – a couple of first teamers can’t make the cut, I assume Adli is one and Alexis is the other

  5. If we didn’t have other areas to improve first I’d say keep Salad and get Chiesa. Both can play either wing and with the amount of games we’re playing, dips in form, injuries, Chuk going to Africa etc, they’d both get to play and increase the competition in the squad.
