MN: Six contracts expiring at AC Milan – who will stay and who will leave?

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are currently evaluating which contracts they should renew ahead of next season. In the summer, six Rossoneri players will be out of contract the club will have to make a decision soon.

These are Giacomo Bonaventura, Lucas Biglia, Simon Kjaer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Asmir Begovic and Alexis Saelemaekers. As MilanNews.it reports, they will have talks with the clubs in the coming weeks to understand the situation.

It will be difficult for the two experienced midfielders to continue, as Biglia and Bonaventura both have ‘heavy’ salaries and age no longer plays in their favour, especially for the Argentine who has already turned 34 and earns €3m per year.

As for Kjaer, on the other hand, Milan are yet to make a decision. The Danish international would be a low-cost opportunity as Sevilla are asking for just €2.5m. Therefore, he could be redeemed to complete the department.

Then we have the most important negotiation which concerns Zlatan Ibrahimovic. A face-to-face meeting with Ivan Gazidis has been scheduled and this will be decisive, as the Swede wants guarantees with regards to the project.

Begovic and Saelemaekers both arrived in January on loan, the goalkeeper from Bournemouth and the midfielder from Anderlecht. The Bosnian should return to England in the summer while Pepe Reina will return to Milan.

The Rossoneri paid €3.5m for Saelemaekers in January and the buy-out clause is set at €3.5m. Given the lack of playing time, though, the future is in doubt as Milan would have wanted more performances to evaluate.
